Today is World Mental Health Day.
We wanted to focus today on stress relief and the impact of massage on the body and mind.
Massage has a 5,000 year history of treating both physical aliments and emotional imbalances by connecting body and mind.
The relaxation benefits of massage, along with the effect on easing muscular tension and pain are well known; yet massage is still considered by many to be a luxury or a treat. But have you ever fully considered its role in overall health?
If we are focusing on mental health and wellbeing then the following points are really interesting:
Neuro-endocrine & Stress Response
Massage shifts the body out of the 'fight or flight' state and into the 'rest and digest'.
Cortisol Reduction - clinical trials have shown that a single session of massage can significantly lower circulating levels of Cortisol (the primary stress hormone)
AVP Regulation - studies show a marked decrease in AVP, a hormone linked to aggressive behaviour, water retention and Cortisol spikes.
Mood Neurotransmitters - massage stimulates skin touch receptors, triggering the release of serotonin & dopamine which elevates mood and reduces anxiety.
If those aren't amazing reasons to book yourself a much needed massage; then this month you can also enjoy 15% off the fabulous
Warm Oil Massage Candle.
The fragrance of the candle fills the room as it melts into a luxurious, warm massage oil. Relax with a full body massage; including the head and scalp, using warm oil from the massage candle. The remaining candle is yours to take home and enjoy!
