💜ME AWARENESS WEEK💜

ME/CFS is a complex multisystem disease involving the brain, muscle, immune and neuroendocrine systems with a wide range of disabling symptoms.

ME/CFS is a long-term illness that causes substantial disability, causing an inability to perform everyday activities of daily living (bathing, dressing, cooking, eating etc).

There is currently no cure or effective treatment for the disease. Pacing, activity and energy management can help some to stabilise symptoms.

💙MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS WEEK💙

For this years mental health awareness week theme, Action have been chosen. While awareness is vital, real change comes when we take action too. Together, we’ve come a long way on mental health, but we can’t risk going backwards. There’s still much we can do to prevent people becoming unwell in the first place.

Take action.
For yourself.
For someone else.
For all of us.

💙 WORLD KIDNEY DAY 💙

World Kidney Day is an annual campaign to help raise awareness of kidneys and show the impact when they don’t work properly. It also aims to educate people on what kidneys do, the symptoms of kidney disease and how to improve your kidney health.

Kidney disease is not a disease that affects only a handful of people. Over SEVEN million people have it in the UK. Maybe that’s your neighbour. Your parent. Your work colleague. Your child. Or even you.

67% of kidney patients experience symptoms of depression.
24 people start treatment for kidney failure every day in the UK.

🚬NATIONAL NO SMOKING DAY🚬

What are the benefits of quitting smoking?

You might notice benefits sooner than you think:
▪️ Your heart rate and blood pressure will begin to return to normal after 20 minutes
▪️ Your sense of smell and taste will begin to improve after 2-3 days
▪️ Your risk of a heart attack is half that of a smoker after 1 year.

Quitting smoking also has other benefits like:
▪️ You will have fresher breath and whiter teeth
▪️ Your skin might look younger and age less quickly
▪️ You might have more energy, feel less tired and get less headaches
▪️ Your immune system will find it easier to fight off colds and flu
▪️ Your s*x drive may increase, and it can improve your fertility
▪️ You will protect the health of your children, family and friends.

It’s never too late to benefit from stopping smoking. On average, smokers who quit in their 30s will add 10 years to their life. Even quitting at 60 will add 3 years. Being a non-smoker can also improve your chances of being more physically active and healthier as you get older.

💚OVARIAN CANCER AWARENESS MONTH💚

Currently only 3 in 10 women diagnosed with ovarian cancer live beyond 10 years. With 7500 women receiving an ovarian cancer diagnosis in the UK each year, it’s vital we make faster progress to reach a vision of ovarian cancer being survivable for all women.

Understanding the symptoms of ovarian cancer is pivotal for early detection. Common symptoms include:
💚Persistent bloating
💚Pelvic or abdominal pain
💚Difficulty eating or feeling full quickly
