This is a really important concept that clients and I often work on in therapy together. Control is an illusion that we create for ourselves, to control outcomes, other people, the future, our emotions, even our thoughts. This is counter intuitive, the harder we grip the more anxious, frustrated and exhausted we become. The reality is that much of life is outside our control. When we accept this, when we can see reality - just as it is, we allow ourselves to be free. What we really can control is our response, our attention, our actions, our values. When we accept this, we create space for perspective, and use decision making, creativity and very importantly - peace. What are you trying to control right now?
