Everyone says the same thing.

Rest it. Give it time. It’ll settle on its own.

So you do. You take the days off. You skip the sessions. You wait it out exactly like you’re supposed to.

And it doesn’t change.

That’s a uniquely frustrating place to be. Because the advice you’ve been given — the advice that’s supposed to work — just isn’t working. And you start wondering what you’re doing wrong.

You’re probably not doing anything wrong.

Rest is good advice for some injuries. But it’s not a fix for everything. Sometimes rest just pauses the problem rather than solving it. The moment you go back to training, the same thing flares up again — because whatever was causing it in the first place never actually got addressed.

If you’ve rested and it’s still not right, that’s not a sign to rest more.

It’s a sign to find out why it’s actually happening.

This is one of the most common things I hear.

And it makes complete sense. You’ve maybe tried things before that haven’t worked. You don’t want to invest time and money into something that isn’t going to move the needle.

So you wait. Until you’re sure.

But here’s the thing — you can’t know if something will work without trying it. And the longer you wait for certainty that isn’t coming, the longer the injury sits there.

You don’t have to commit to a full programme upfront.

Start with one session. Come in, get a proper assessment, understand exactly what’s going on. Leave with a diagnosis and a clear plan.

If it makes sense to continue — great. If not — you’ve at least got clarity on what you’re dealing with and what your options are.

That’s not a big commitment. That’s one hour to finally get some answers.

Most people who come in unsure leave knowing exactly what they need to do next. That alone is worth it.

I think this puts a lot of people off reaching out. And it’s completely understandable.

The name doesn’t help. “Sports therapy” sounds like it’s reserved for professionals, elite runners, or people playing at a high level. Like you need to be performing at a certain standard before it applies to you.

You don’t.

The people I work with in and around Tunbridge Wells are everyday active people. Runners who do parkrun on a Saturday morning. Gym-goers who train three times a week. People who play five-a-side on a Thursday night. Parents who just want to be able to move without something hurting.

None of them are professional athletes. All of them have benefited from sports therapy.

What sports therapy actually is — is a thorough understanding of how the body moves, what causes injury, and how to fix it. That applies to everyone. Not just the elite.

If you’re active and something is stopping you doing what you love — that’s exactly who I work with.

You don’t need to be running a four hour marathon or competing at county level. You just need to want to get better.
