The power of gratitude ✨

When we think of gratitude, our minds often jump to the big milestones—the promotions, the holidays, or the major life shifts. But the true magic for our mental health lies in the micro-moments.

Practicing gratitude is like a workout for your brain. It physically strengthens the neural pathways associated with optimism and resilience. By intentionally noticing the "small" things, you begin to:

Lower Cortisol: Reducing the physiological impact of stress.
Improve Sleep: Shifting your focus from "what went wrong" to "what felt good" before bed.
Boost Dopamine: Creating a natural cycle of reward and contentment.

The catch? It takes practice. Our brains have a natural "negativity bias"—we are wired to notice threats and problems. Identifying a warm drink or a kind word as a "win" isn’t always second nature. You have to train your eyes to see them.

Try noticing 3 things each day.
Write it down.
Be consistent.

We are all familiar with the little voice in our heads that likes to pop up when things have not gone so well, that inner critic.
Have you ever thought about how much impact that little voice has about how you see yourself? It's huge! From the quick remarks that you may not even notice to full blown rants, it all sinks into the subconscious mind and influences our self esteem.
So what can we do about it?
Firstly we need to recognise it in real time.
Possibly analyse where it is coming from though this is tricky especially to begin with.
Try to reframe it to something more neutral, not specifically positive as it will likely loop back to a negative.
Alternatively, imagine either your friend telling you what had happened and how they spoke to themself (using your inner voice) and respond to them with kindness and compassion. The more you do this, this easier it will be for you to practice the same on yourself and this will eventually support your self esteem and worth.

Feeling overwhelmed? Let’s get grounded. 🌿
Ever feel like your brain has 50 tabs open and they’re all freezing? When anxiety kicks in or your mind starts racing, the 5-4-3-2-1 Grounding Method is your "refresh" button.
What is it?
It’s a sensory countdown designed to pull you out of your head and back into your body.
5 things you can SEE (a plant, a coffee mug, a bird)
4 things you can TOUCH (your soft sweater, the cool desk, your hair)
3 things you can HEAR (traffic, a humming fridge, your breath)
2 things you can SMELL (fresh rain, your perfume, the air)
1 thing you can TASTE (the mint in your mouth, or even just the inside of your cheek)
Why it works (The Science 🧠)
This isn't just "distraction"—it's biology. When you’re anxious, your amygdala (the brain's alarm system) goes into overdrive. By forcing your brain to identify specific sensory inputs, you engage the prefrontal cortex (the logical, thinking part of your brain).
This shift signals to your nervous system that there is no immediate physical threat in your environment, helping move you from "fight or flight" back into "rest and digest."
Use it when:
You’re spiraling into "what if" thoughts.
You feel a panic attack bubbling up.
You’re feeling detached or "zoned out" (dissociation).
You just need a 60-second mental reset.
Save this post for the next time you need to find your footing! 📌

Morning all,
Starting today bright and early.
It's looking to be a nice day already based on the sun I can see.
Today's exercise is box breathing and I literally teach this to everyone that comes to see me.
Any breathing exercise will be effective if practiced consistently, this is just the easiest for me to remember.
The important thing though, is to practice any of these sorts of practices, when you are feeling calm and safe. We do need them when we are feeling panicked or stressed hence the intuitive deep breathing in those situations but you want your body to get the benefit of regulating which will be more effective if you practice this. I usually say a round of 3 breaths 2/3 times daily, it's more important to be consistent with this rather than intense.
The purpose is to stimulate the vagus nerve, the one responsible for our fight and flight response. It is also helpful to our physical body in terms of heart rate, blood circulation particularly oxygenation, can help lower cortisol, our stress hormone, it can also help lower inflammation.
Give it a go and let me know how you get on,
Kind regards,
Kendal

🧠 Mental Health Awareness Week

Day1
Firstly, I have recorded an actual video for this but have not been able to upload it, so here we are.

We all have mental health, just like we all have physical health. It’s not just about the absence of illness; it’s about how we think, feel, and handle the ups and downs of life.

📉 In the UK
1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem each year.

1 in 6 people report experiencing a common mental health problem (like anxiety or depression) in any given week.

In the UK, su***de remains the leading cause of death for men under the age of 50.

Approximately 50% of mental health problems are established by age 14.

What Impacts Our Wellbeing?
Mental health doesn't exist in a vacuum. It’s shaped by a complex mix of things we can control and things we can't:
Life Events:Grief, job loss, or ending a relationship.
Environment:Housing conditions, cost of living stress, and workplace culture.
Biology:Genetics and brain chemistry.
Social Factors: Loneliness, discrimination, or lack of support networks.

💚 Small Steps Matter
You don't need to be an expert to make a difference. Sometimes, just checking in on a friend or being honest about your own "bad day" can break the stigma.

💚Small Practices
I have attached an image outlining a body scan for you to practice in your own time. Taking time to connect with our body each day helps us to recognise when something does not feel right.

Let's look out for one another. Physical health gets the gym memberships and the vitamins—let's give our minds some of that same energy.

Hey all,
I hope that everyone is well and looking after themselves.
This week is mental health awareness week so you can expect a few posts from yours truly.
I also want to share that next Sunday I am hosting a whole day of therapeutic sessions at Flow in Rugby. I would love to see some of you there. I had planned to do a similar event in the black country but I need to find a suitable place to host (let me know if you know somewhere).
The day will begin at 10 and have the following sessions,
Mindfulness introduction and grounding,
Guided relaxation,
EFT,
Introduction to the nervous system,
Acupuncture and hypnosis,
Sound healing.
Each session is £20 and can be mixed and matched to create your own wellbeing day or come and join for a single session.
Feel free to drop a message of you have any questions and to book,
Kindest,
Kendal
