Isometrics are underrated…

Underused, in my opinion

Yet they’re incredible for building strength and posture in specific positions

In this case, the common catch position for a (high) power clean… or even power jerks

A position where a lot of lifters don’t have the strength in order to apply the brakes and support the bar in the rack or overhead

In this case, 30 second holds at 65% were used

A lot of the people I speak with prior to us working with them tell me of their goals… perhaps the way they visualise themselves looking, how they want to feel on a daily basis, or the examples they want to set to their kids…

But when asked if they could be more specific about what they want to achieve and when.. they look at me as though I have 3 heads

In my opinion, it’s essential to know exactly what you want

It’s important that you are completely clear on your desired destination… they idea of reaching it must excite you

The reason I believe that this is so important is because it then allows you to plan your route

It allows you to take out your metaphorical map and compass and plan your journey carefully

If you were to be dropped into the middle of nowhere with no idea about your precise location and destination, you’d be lost!

It’s the same with your goals, your dreams, your life

If you have a precise idea of your current location and your target, it’s very easy to reverse engineer a route that works, and construct a route card with accurate compass bearings, distances, timings, pace notes, description of terrain etc

This is essentially what we do together when we start working with one another

We discuss your 3, 5 and 10 years goals before breaking them down into annual targets

Annual targets are broken into quarterly goals

Quarterly goals broken down into 28 day plans

28 day plans broken down into 7 day missions

I do this with people that have physique goals

Strength goals

Endurance / event goals

Goals relating to their lifestyle, their health, the way they want to be around their kids, their family, what they want out of their business and more!…

If you want success in anything you must plan

You must have direction

And as I’ve said before… the biggest cure for anxiety, overwhelm and procrastination is clarity

Clarity comes from getting this s**t done

How long does it take to get in really good shape?

Honestly…

Not that long at all

People can achieve genuinely incredible things in 12, 16, 20 weeks

The reality is, this period is a fraction of the time you’ve been unhappy, miserable, tired, lacking confidence and direction

16 weeks ago… is around the middle of May

Doesn’t seem that long ago, or at least it doesn’t to me

You could have been where you wanted to be right now had you have started back in May

Instead, you’re stuck in the same place. Same frame of mind. Same hamster wheel

Yes, you may need a dramatic lifestyle change, you may need to restrict a lot, it may be hard work and it certainly requires a tonne of discipline…

But if you stuck to something for 16 weeks you could be where you want to be before Christmas this year

It’s not easy getting in great shape

But trust me on this one…

It’s much much much easier to maintain that great shape once you’ve achieved it

You can reintroduce some of the social habits you enjoy whilst staying in great shape

It’s not as hard once you get there

You just have to get there first

My point is, the time passes quicker than you think

It may not seem it now… particularly whilst you’re currently lacking confidence, unsure where to start, miserable and lacking discipline

You and I both now that the next 16 weeks will fly past

It’s up to you, now, to decide how you want to think, feel act and behave when that time does come

Unbelievable effort to finish this never mind place 6th… I believe 1500 people are taking part this weekend

Fully deserves it… no body I know works harder in the gym, during conditioning sessions or in the kitchen

Well done sir… proud coach 👌

Looking forward to catching up once he’s rested and had time to reflect
