3 Misconceptions About Live-In Care

Think live-in care is only for the very elderly? Or that it replaces family? Or that it’s too expensive? Think again! We're sharing our top 3 misconceptions about live-in care. Why not share yours with us too?

1️⃣ It’s only for the very elderly or completely dependent people

Many assume live-in care is only for the elderly who are bedridden or need 24/7 supervision. In reality, live-in care can help adults of any age - whether that's someone recovering from surgery, managing a chronic illness, or they just need extra help with daily tasks while staying independent.

2️⃣ Live-in carers replace family entirely

Some think hiring a live-in carer means family members are no longer involved. That couldn't be more wrong. Live-in carers complement family support. They handle complex or time-consuming tasks, give families peace of mind, and encourage visits, companionship, and shared decision-making.

3️⃣ It’s too expensive compared to other options

Many believe live-in care is unaffordable. While it can cost more upfront than occasional visits, in many cases it can be comparable to the cost of care homes. And if you're a couple, live-in care is often cheaper. Rather than paying for two care home places, you're paying for one carer instead. Plus, it provides consistent, personalised support in the comfort of home.

You see, live-in care isn’t just about help. It’s about peace of mind, independence, and a happier home life. Something we want for ourselves - and our loved ones.

Don’t Forget - The Clocks Are Changing! ⏰

A little reminder that here in the UK, the clocks go forward one hour this Sunday (29th March).

At 1am, we lose an hour of sleep. Yes, we may feel slightly robbed of an hour’s sleep on Sunday morning… but brighter evenings and the promise of spring make it a little easier to forgive.

Who else looks forward to that first properly light evening?

We're a little late to International Day of Happiness, but this is something worth reflecting on every day. What does happiness look like at home?

It might be:

🪑 Sitting in your favourite chair
😊 Seeing a familiar face each day
☕️ Enjoying a cup of tea or coffee
📻 Listening to the radio
🪴 Looking out into the garden or watching the birds
🤫 A quiet moment in the morning before the day begins

As we get older, happiness doesn’t have to come from big changes or grand plans - it’s often found in the familiar. These small, everyday moments are often the ones that matter most.

💬 We’d love to hear from you. What does happiness at home look like for you or your loved ones?

We bring you some very exciting news from the Always Take Care HQ.

Our office has moved to a new location. But dont worry, we haven't gone far - we're still in the beautiful county of Rutland.

As our team continues to grow, we needed a space that better supports the work we do behind the scenes - coordinating care, supporting our carers, and being there for the families who trust us with caring for their loved ones. Also, the lease came to an end at our Oakham premises - so it felt like the perfect time for a change.

While our address may have changed, what hasn’t changed is our commitment to providing compassionate, reliable live-in care that helps people remain comfortable and independent in their own homes.

The coffee machine and kettle will be coming with us. And parking is plentiful and free! So, if you’re exploring care options for a loved one and would like to have a friendly, confidential chat, we're here to help.

When is it the right time to consider live-in care? 💛

Watching a loved one age can bring new challenges. Sometimes it’s hard to know when extra support might help. And that’s okay. But we wanted to share a few gentle signs that it could be worth exploring care options, such as:

Increasing falls or trips
Confusion with medication
Feeling isolated or lonely
Family feeling overwhelmed or burnt out
Reduced mobility making daily tasks harder

Recognising these signs doesn’t mean something is “wrong.” It simply means your loved one might benefit from a little extra support, so they can stay safe, comfortable, and happy at home.

Have we missed any signs? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments because your experience could help another family.

When home is where the heart is, live-in care makes all the difference. It's one of the reasons why more families are choosing home care.

When a loved one needs support, families want more than just day-to-day practical help. They want reassurance, companionship, and the comfort of familiar surroundings.

Live-in care provides one-to-one support, allowing your loved one to receive personalised attention every day. Staying at home means they can continue living in the environment they know and love, surrounded by memories and the people they care about. It also supports emotional wellbeing, and helps reduce anxiety, stress and loneliness.

If you’re thinking it's time to start exploring care options, we’re here to offer guidance. Here at Always Take Care, we understand how important this decision is, and we’re here to guide you every step of the way.

If you’re exploring care options, send us a message or give us a call - we’re happy to answer your questions, no pressure, just support. Or if you know someone considering live-in care, please share this with them.

Social care is back in the headlines this week.

This article in the Guardian highlights growing concerns about the future of England’s social care system and the pressures families are facing when trying to find the right support for loved ones.

For many people, navigating care can feel confusing and overwhelming. Behind every headline are real families trying to do the very best for someone they love.

That’s why conversations about care matter. Whether support comes from family, community services, or professional carers, what matters most is that people receive the dignity, safety, and companionship they deserve.

If you’re exploring care options for someone close to you, know that you’re not alone. There are people who can help guide you through the choices.

Celebrating Women Who Care 🫶

In the run up to International Women’s Day on Sunday, we're proud to celebrate the incredible women across our entire team. And we wanted to take a moment to acknowledge the difference you make in this world.

From our compassionate live-in carers providing dedicated support in clients’ homes, to the women behind the scenes in our office who coordinate, guide and support every step of the journey - your commitment makes everything we do possible. To you all, we say thank you for your kindness, and your compassion. These traits connects us all.

In the words of rabbi and author Harold Kushner: "When you are kind to others, it not only changes you, it changes the world".
