Fresh Start Extra is a client centred behavioural change weight management programme which encourages lifelong healthy lifestyle changes to support individuals to lose weight. Integrated into a larger weight management pathway in St Helens, Fresh Start Extra is the specialist element of the pathway and also provides support to clients wanting to access bariatric surgery. Patients referred to the p
rogramme will undertake:
-An initial one hour assessment including a lifestyle assessment, a psychological assessment and a review of health conditions.
-12 fortnightly group sessions over six months (Fresh Start Extra) or 12 weekly group sessions over 3 months (Fresh Start) dependent on need.
-Group psychological therapy for binge eating if needed.
-Referral to Mental Health Services for depression or other weight related psychological issues before accessing the main programme if needed.
-A further 6 months of follow up sessions, newsletters and continuing support
-Information sessions for patients on the bariatric pathway.
