KAYLEIGH

Kayleigh joined Overloaded in 2024 bringing a skills and experience in retail. The Overloaded Gift Shop was a keen focus of Kayleigh’s and she had vision…

Developing her knowledge of SEN and education has allowed Kayleigh to work in the SENtre, Gift shop and community. Her creative ideas capture our Pre 16 young people, music, Arts Awards and Creative Studies are all subjects and qualifications Kayleigh delivers.

Kayleigh also focuses on the Post 16 Provision, providing support to access the community confidently and later work experience. Kayleigh’s employment training in the shop has resulted in increase of sales, development of employment skills and diversifying of stock in the shop- a keen focus on anxiety aids is now sold in 1 Fishers Yard.

Kayleigh says, ‘ I enjoy working with young people and seeing them grow in confidence, both within the setting and out in the community. It’s rewarding to support them in developing their independence and feeling more confident in themselves and the world around them.

I feel grateful that I can help the Young people build their confidence in work experience in the gift shop and seeing how proud they are of their own work at Overloaded gift shop.’

✏️📚Meet The Staff✏️📚

JAMIE

Jamie joined Overloaded in 2022 bringing with him a wealth of practical experience and knowledge.
Leaving school early, Jamie was lucky enough to be offered practical learning and later an apprenticeship in Motor Mechanics where he thrived.

Jamie understands how important it is to teach across different learning styles and environments. He has built a mini gym area in the SENtre and is the lead at the Overloaded Farm and outside Space.

Jamie’s, creative approach allows young people opportunities to explore activities and qualifications that main stream schools can not facilitate.

Jamie has continued his own education and plays a leading role in health and safety, fire marshalling and exam invigilating in the SENtre.

Jamie says, ‘I enjoy the team I work within, every day at Overloaded is different. The variety of different sites allows young people to explore and gain new interests.
Quad bikes, shooting ranges, maps, horses, cycling and cars are resources that not only give qualifications but life long skills.- the young people amaze me when they are given the right environment and tools.’

📚✏️ Meet The Team 📚✏️

SAM

Sam joined Overloaded in 2022, bringing her skills and knowledge of SEN and Early Years education.
Sam wanted a new challenge and a role she could progress in… she has definitely for-filled that goal.

Sam has supported the provision through growth and the move into our bigger SENtre. Sam has taken on further education herself to become a tutor and SEMH specialist. Sam has provided support and guidance to others on the team.

Sam is a first aider, safeguarding lead and has shown a lead in English Language- she can invigilate exams in the SENtre as well as relieve anxieties around assessments.

Sam say, ‘I am committed to helping young people understand and process their emotions slowly, in their own time.

Working with the young people who come to Overloaded is a privilege. These young people have often struggled to fit into mainstream school and Overloaded gives them a place where they can learn to trust again, believe in themselves and feel comfortable being who they are.

I feel privileged to be part of their journey and to support them as they grow in confidence and begin to believe in themselves. ‘

✏️📚 Meet The Team✏️📚

JOSEPH

Joseph is Overloaded’s Maths Tutor. He enjoys creating creative Maths resources, linked to the National Curriculum and Functional Skills.

Joseph invigilates for exams in the SENtre, manages the IT and takes a vital role in health and safety management. He also played a key role in setting up the Gift shop, recruiting crafters and starting the provision in 2021 with Rachel.

Joseph has a thorough understanding of EBSA and how young people can feel around school and the big step into work. In 2021, Joseph was very sceptical of professionals and unsure of his career paths. He knew Rachel from his previous provision as a young person and gradually trust began to build. By January 2022 Joseph and Rachel were out in the community and needed a base…… the shop was born!

Joseph’s confidence shines through to all now and he is changing the perception of ‘scary Maths’ for many young people. He has been on a journey and has found his skills and place in employment.

Joseph says, ‘’I am fully invested in supporting young people- I am committed in my role at Overloaded and have gained confidence growing with the provision. Young people need time, a safe place and to be heard. ‘’

📚✏️It’s Time to Reintroduce The Team📚✏️

We have gained more followers, welcomed new young people, families, crafters and customers so let us introduce ourselves again.

RACHEL

Rachel is the founder of Overloaded. In 2021 she recognised there were many young people falling through the gaps in education and employment. Not because they didn’t want to learn or work… but because the methods, speed and pressures were so challenging.

Fast forward a couple of years… Anxiety and EBSA (Emotional Based school avoidance) are words spoken daily and it is being recognised as a barrier to a growing number of young people’s worlds.

With over twenty years in education and leadership Rachel now runs the Overloaded Alternative Provision. This focuses on channelling interests and a predictable environment to learn and grow. The Gift Shop was the first premises in 2022- a shop run by young people- selling local crafters work- this remains successful in Post 16 young people providing vital employment skills and qualifications to move on.

The learning SENtre soon developed, by September 2022 more space was needed.

In 2023 an outdoor/ farm provision was introduced.
A strong team has been built and remained consistent since Overloaded began.

Rachel says: Everyone can achieve, I enjoy focusing on traditional methods of teaching and therapies. My reward is seeing young people open up and grow within our provision. Starting the process, following it and seeing it through onto transition is what I signed up to many years ago in teacher training- I can now achieve this!

Our usual range of wonderful local artists is also on display.

😀😃 The Mystery continues….😃😀

We have a lovely sequin sensory board in our downstairs room. For the past 4 weeks ‘someone’ has been writing positives messages on it.

Not a member or staff, not Barney…. So it must be a young person….

This week it is ‘smile’ and I had to 😃

Sometimes we underestimate how supportive young people are of themselves, their peers and of our staff.

Who ever you are, keep them coming.
