Happy Solstice and International Day of Yoga 2026.
We’ve just changed the window at the top of our stairs from frosted to clear, and it turns out the top of our stairs is now a perfect spot to watch the sunrise from. Sunrise on Solstice ☀️❤️

This year's United nations theme for International Day of Yoga is Yoga for Healthy Aging.

“This year marks the 12th International Day of Yoga with the theme “ Yoga for Healthy Ageing”, which emphasizes the importance of Yoga for all ages. Yoga can be a valuable practice for healthy aging because it supports many of the abilities that help people stay active, independent, and engaged as they grow older. By combining gentle movement, stretching, breathing exercises, and mindfulness, yoga can help improve balance, flexibility, strength, and mobility, while also supporting mental well-being and stress management. Because yoga can be adapted to different fitness levels and health conditions, it offers an accessible way for many older adults to maintain their physical and emotional health. These benefits support several goals of the WHO Decade of Healthy Ageing (2021–2030), including promoting independence, reducing fall risk, enhancing quality of life, and encouraging person-centered approaches to health and well-being”

This weekend was our third Yoga weekend at Nab Cottage, this time a summer visit instead of an autumn one. I thought the lakes couldn’t look more beautiful than they do in Autumn, but so many breathtakingly beautiful shades of soft green 🍃 ❤️
A wonderful weekend of Yoga, lake swimming, delicious food, and fabulous company. Feeling grateful 🙏🏻 ❤️

Due to a family emergency I have had a cancellation for our Yoga weekend this weekend at the beautiful Nab Cottage at Rydal.
The weekend begins this Friday at 4 pm, and we say our goodbyes after lunch on Sunday. The space is in a twin room shared with one lovely other, so as such this space is only open to a female. The cost is a very reasonable £345 and includes accommodation, all delicious nutritious vegetarian food (vegan/coeliac diets also catered for), 5 Yoga/pranayama classes, group walk, hot tub, and wood fired sauna! And of course wonderful company!
What else would you want to do this weekend ❤️. Please DM me if you are interested in taking this space.

Such sad news today to hear about the passing of Bobby Clennell, such a wonderful inspirational teacher. I was lucky enough to attend one of her workshops, and am just reading one of her books, Yoga for Breast Care. What a legacy she leaves 💔

This morning’s forest bathing session was a small affair, just the two of us to start, but then a third turned up and I knew we were going.
She arrived clearly uncomfortable and in pain, a lovely lady with long Covid for whom life is currently a struggle due to a lot of nerve pain.
We wandered slowly down to the woods, and spent a while merging our breath with a beautiful colour meditation together under a grand old yew tree, then ventured off separately into the trees; today’s invitation being to notice the many different shades of green that make everything so beautifully lush at this time of year.
An hour later when we joined back together for a tea, it was clear that something had shifted among the trees. The lady looked different - brighter, face clearer, her energy lighter. Moving more easily, a smile had replaced the pain on her face.

The magic of trees 🌳 ❤️

If you would like to join us, this is a free event every third Friday of the month leaving from Sale West community centre at 1130 hrs into Firs Wood.

It's mental health awareness week this week, and the theme for this year is 'Taking action'. For ourselves, and for others.
Taking action doesn't have to mean anything drastic, just adding a small but good thing into our day to give the happy hormones a boost. And being consistent with that thing, even on the days where it feels like a herculean effort. Until that thing becomes a habit.

A few things in my own wellbeing toolbox are - getting out into nature, feeding my body with nutritious food, cuddling a dog, taking a few minutes to slow down my breath, and of course Yoga. And not forgetting taking time for a chat with someone - we can't do this life alone!

Things I have running this week that benefit my own wellbeing as much as yours - chair based Yoga today, mat based Yoga this evening and Friday morning, a free Forest bathing in Firs Wood Friday 1130 hrs, and MileShy Meet up, a free wellbeing group with different weekly activities at Coppice Library on Thursdays 5-7 pm, and Broomwood community centre Mondays 5-7 pm https://www.mileshyclub.com/mileshymeetup
Let me know if you would like any more information or to join any of these,

Small steps are where change begins ❤️

April means it’s nettle season 😃. Nettles are a nutritional powerhouse, giving you a boost of iron, vitamins A, C and K, as well as magnesium and calcium!

Great for the liver, for reducing inflammation, and they act as a natural antihistamine too. If you’re prone to hay fever why not give them a try?

And I think they make a pretty delicious soup too!

This was a bag of nettle tops (just the first couple of inches so you don’t get the lower woody stalks), an onion, a potato (or you could use swede if you’re avoiding nightshades), a few cloves of garlic, stock, and a massive squeeze of lemon juice. Yum 😋
