✨ Can I start hair removal before hormones? Absolutely! ✨

One of the biggest misconceptions about gender-affirming hair removal is that you need to wait until you've started hormone replacement therapy (HRT).

The truth? Many transgender clients begin laser hair removal or electrolysis before starting hormones, and in many cases, starting earlier can be beneficial.

💡 Why start before HRT?

Hormones can help slow down new hair growth over time, but they don't remove the hair follicles that already exist. Facial and body hair that has already developed typically requires laser hair removal, electrolysis, or a combination of both to achieve long-term reduction or permanent removal.

Starting treatment sooner means:

✔️ Reducing facial hair and shadow earlier in your transition
✔️ Easing any gender dysphoria
✔️ Giving yourself a head start, as hair removal is a gradual process that takes multiple sessions
✔️ Building confidence while waiting for other aspects of your transition

⏳ It's important to remember that hair removal is a journey, not an overnight transformation. Whether you're planning to start hormones soon, currently exploring your options, or know that HRT isn't right for you, you don't need to wait to begin your hair removal journey.

Every transition is unique, and your treatment plan should be too. 🌈

✨ Niacinamide: the multitasking skincare ingredient ✨

If you've ever struggled with excess oil, redness, uneven skin tone, or stubborn dark spots, niacinamide might be the ingredient you've been looking for.

Niacinamide, AKA Vitamin B3, is one of the most researched and versatile skincare ingredients available. It works with your skin rather than against it, making it suitable for almost every skin type, including sensitive skin.

💧 Helps Control Excess Oil Without Drying Your Skin

Many people with oily skin make the mistake of using harsh products that strip away natural oils. While this may seem helpful at first, it can actually cause your skin to produce even more oil to compensate. Niacinamide helps regulate oil production, reducing excess shine while maintaining your skin's natural moisture balance. The result? Skin that feels comfortable, balanced, and healthier overall.

✨ Helps Fade Dark Spots With Consistent Use

Whether your pigmentation is caused by acne, sun exposure, or skin irritation, niacinamide can help improve uneven skin tone over time. It works by reducing the transfer of pigment within the skin, helping dark marks gradually appear lighter. Consistency is key — while results won't happen overnight, regular use can lead to a brighter, more even complexion.

🌿 Helps Reduce Redness

Redness can be caused by sensitivity, irritation, inflammation, or a weakened skin barrier. Niacinamide has calming properties that help soothe the skin and reduce the appearance of redness. This makes it a fantastic ingredient for those who experience flushing, sensitivity, or reactive skin.

🤍 Suitable for Sensitive Skin

One of the reasons niacinamide has become so popular is because it's generally well tolerated by most skin types. Unlike some active ingredients that can cause irritation, niacinamide is gentle enough for sensitive skin while still delivering noticeable benefits. It also supports the skin barrier, helping your skin become stronger and more resilient over time.

Niacinamide works well alongside many other skincare ingredients, making it easy to incorporate into your routine.

✨ Benefits of microneedling for your skin ✨

At Cypress Quay, microneedling is one of our most popular skin rejuvenation treatments, and for good reason. It works by creating controlled micro-injuries in the skin, triggering your natural healing response and stimulating fresh collagen production.

Here are the key benefits 👇

💡 Boosts collagen
Microneedling encourages the skin to produce new collagen and elastin, helping to strengthen and rebuild the skin from within over time.

✨ Improves skin tone
It helps create a more even complexion by supporting skin regeneration and improving overall radiance and clarity.

🧴 Reduces acne scars
One of its most effective uses, microneedling can soften the appearance of acne scarring by breaking down old tissue and encouraging new, healthy skin formation.

🌿 Minimises wrinkles
By improving skin structure and elasticity, microneedling helps reduce the appearance of fine lines and early wrinkles, making the skin look smoother and more refreshed.

⚠️ What to expect
After treatment, it’s normal to experience:
• Redness for 24–48 hours
• Mild sensitivity
• Gradual, building results over several weeks

Collagen production takes time, so results continue improving after your treatment course.

Microneedling is a powerful, natural skin rejuvenation treatment that helps improve texture, tone, scarring, and fine lines by working with your skin’s own healing process.

If you’re unsure whether it’s right for you, we’re always happy to guide you at Cypress Quay ✨

✨ What is the best laser hair removal machine? ✨

We get asked this a lot at Cypress Quay, and the honest answer is:

👉 There is no single “best” machine. What matters most is the technology inside the laser, not the brand name.

Laser results depend on wavelength (or combination of wavelengths) and how well they match your skin tone and hair type.

💡 The key laser technologies

⚡ Alexandrite (755nm)
Best for:
• Lighter skin tones
• Fine to medium hair
• Fast treatment speeds

Very effective at targeting pigment in the hair.

⚡ Diode (800–810nm)
A versatile wavelength that:
• Works across a wide range of skin tones
• Penetrates deeper into the follicle
• Commonly used for face and body

⚡ Nd:YAG (1064nm)
The deepest wavelength. It:
• Is safest for darker skin tones
• Has lower melanin absorption in the skin
• Targets deeper follicles effectively

📊 Why technology matters more than the machine

Different devices may look different, but many use the same core wavelengths. What actually affects results is:
• Wavelength used
• Energy settings
• Skin and hair suitability
• Treatment protocol

🧠 The most important factor is not the device

Even advanced technology won’t work well if it’s not used correctly. Results depend on:
✔ Proper consultation and assessment
✔ Correct wavelength selection
✔ Safe, effective settings
✔ Understanding hair growth cycles
✔ Consistency of treatments

✨ Our technology at Cypress Quay

At Cypress Quay, we use a triple-wave diode laser system, which combines multiple wavelengths in one treatment.

This allows us to:
• Target different depths of the follicle
• Treat a wider range of skin tones
• Improve versatility across face and body
• Increase efficiency across multiple hair types

It’s a modern approach focused on flexibility and precision.

There is no “best laser machine brand” for everyone. The best results come from the right laser technology, used correctly for your individual skin and hair type.

At Cypress Quay, we prioritise technology and settings over branding, because that’s what delivers results.

If you’re unsure what would suit you, a free consultation is the best place to start ✨

What are the 3 different types of electrolysis? ✨

At Cypress Quay, we often get asked whether there are different “types” of electrolysis, and the answer is yes. There are 3 main methods, and they all work slightly differently to permanently destroy the hair follicle.

Here’s a simple breakdown 👇

⚡ 1. Galvanic electrolysis
This is the original method of electrolysis. It uses a direct electrical current to create a chemical reaction inside the follicle, producing sodium hydroxide (lye), which destroys the hair root.

• Very thorough
• Works well on coarse or deep-rooted hairs
• Slower process compared to other methods

💡 2. Thermolysis (short-wave / diathermy)
This is the most commonly used modern method. It uses high-frequency radio waves to create heat inside the follicle, which destroys the growth cells.

• Fast treatment per hair
• Very precise
• Commonly used for facial areas and fine detail work

⚖️ 3. The Blend method
This combines both galvanic and thermolysis techniques in one treatment. It uses heat and chemical action together for a more thorough follicle destruction.

• Very effective on stubborn hairs
• Can be slower but highly thorough
• Often used for resistant or distorted follicles

💡 Which one is best?

There isn’t a “one size fits all” answer. The best method depends on:
• Hair thickness and depth
• Skin sensitivity
• Area being treated
• How the hair responds to treatment

At Cypress Quay, the method is chosen based on what will give you the most effective and comfortable long-term results.

All 3 methods achieve the same goal: permanent hair removal. The difference is in how they get there, and which hair types they’re best suited for.

If you’re unsure which would suit you, a consultation is the best place to start ✨
