On Saturday 21st March 2026, Flavours and Stories proudly welcomed the rich and vibrant cultures of the Democratic Republic of Congo & Cameroon to the Mental Marathon Wellness Centre located in CiCi Fleur Salford.

Through the sharing of traditional foods, stories, and cooking together, people from diverse cultural backgrounds came together in a space filled with warmth, connection, and understanding.

This wasn’t just about food, it was about building connections. People who have migrated from different parts of the world, each carrying unique life stories, found common ground through conversation, laughter, and shared experiences.

These moments remind us how powerful community can be. Cooking side by side creates trust, strengthens wellbeing, and helps individuals feel seen, heard, and valued.

Spaces like this empower us all, reduces isolation, and can foster a sense of belonging proving that even the simplest acts, like sharing a meal, can bring people closer together.

The Mental Marathon Wellness Centre, based inside CiCi Fleur, created a warm and welcoming space for the community bringing people together to share experiences, build connections, and engage in meaningful conversations.

On 8th March, “Flavours and Stories” celebrated Polish cultural traditions as part of the wider “Who’s Art? Who’s Culture?” project, which focused on exploring whose voices shape our shared cultural landscape. The event reflected on coming together and creating space for the stories of women who help shape the city.

The Polish community prepared dishes inspired by their heritage, rich in flavour and meaningful. Carrying stories of migration, memory, and everyday life. Through food, the event highlighted how the culture of a city is built through care, connection, and lived experience.

Community led housing Ideas

The session last week focused on creative housing options that help older people stay independent, connected, and rooted in their communities. From the idea of garden homes to shared spaces that encourage connection, inspiring housing explored practical ways housing can support better health and wellbeing.

The community led housing explored how creating opportunities for “walk and talk” conversations or a relaxed “brew and chat” can make a real difference in reducing isolation and strengthening community bonds.

A huge thank you to InspiringHousing.co.uk for leading the session , Vivensa Foundation for funding the research, and The Mental Marathon Wellness Centre for hosting and providing a welcoming space.

Together we’re exploring how communities can shape housing that truly supports people to live well, stay connected, and thrive.
