Progress in therapy rarely moves in straight lines. Some weeks feel like massive strides in terms of progress, some feel emotional or tender, and some feel like nothing much has happened at all, and yet each of these moments is part of the process.

Your system doesn’t change on command. It changes when it feels safe, supported and ready, and that readiness can shift from week to week depending on what life is asking of you.

Sometimes the most meaningful work happens quietly: a softened reaction, a moment of clarity, a gentler internal voice, or simply the ability to stay present with something that once felt overwhelming.

Therapy isn’t about constant improvement. It’s about building the capacity to meet your experience with more steadiness, more understanding and less fear.

The gut and brain are constantly communicating, which is why emotional stress so often shows up as physical symptoms - tightness, nausea, bloating, urgency, or that familiar 'knot' that seems to appear out of nowhere.

This is your nervous system doing exactly what it was designed to do: respond to perceived threat by shifting digestion, tightening muscles and preparing you to cope.

For people with IBS or gut sensitivity, this communication loop can become overactive, meaning the gut reacts strongly even when the mind doesn’t feel consciously stressed.

Gut‑focused hypnotherapy works by calming the pathways between the brain and digestive system, reducing sensitivity and helping the body return to a steadier baseline.

When the nervous system settles, the gut often follows.

Your body holds tension in ways that often make perfect sense once you understand the story behind it.

Somatic softening is the gentle process of the body beginning to release that tension through small shifts that happen when your system feels safe enough to do so.

'Somatic' simply means relating to the body; the body as you experience it from the inside rather than as a medical object.

It comes from the Greek sōma, meaning body.

In therapy, when we say somatic, we’re talking about:

body sensations

tension patterns

breath, posture, micro‑movements

the way emotions show up physically

the nervous system’s responses

the body’s memory of experiences

So somatic softening literally means: the body beginning to loosen, release or shift in a gentle, natural way.

It's not dramatic work, but subtle, steady and grounded, helping the body let go of what it has been carrying so the mind doesn’t have to work quite so hard to hold everything together.

Some people worry that because they have busy minds that don't switch off, this might be a barrier to therapy. It's not. Overthinking, scanning, analysing and 'not being able to relax' are often signs your system is trying to stay safe. Therapy works with that, not against it, and your mind settles naturally as safety builds.

Some sessions can feel lighter than others, whereas some might feel more emotional, and some feel like nothing much happened at all, yet all of them are part of the process.

Your system doesn’t change in straight lines, and that’s completely normal.

Hypnosis shifts the brain into a state of focused attention where the edges of awareness soften, and imagery becomes clearer and more vivid. It’s a gentle shift rather than a dramatic one, and most people recognise it as a familiar state they move through in everyday life without realising.

It isn’t sleep or zoning out; it’s a natural, comfortable state where the mind can work to change unwanted patterns and access inner resources more easily - exploring change without the usual noise or pressure of conscious thinking.

EMDR is widely known for trauma work, but it also supports phobias, grief, performance anxiety, medical trauma and the feeling of being 'stuck' that comes from unresolved experiences.

It helps the brain update old information, so your reactions become more aligned with the present.

World Meditation Day encourages people to pause, breathe, and reconnect with practices that support mental, emotional and physical wellbeing.

It’s designed to raise awareness of meditation’s benefits, including:

reduced stress and anxiety

improved emotional regulation

better focus and clarity

deeper mind–body connection

support for sleep and nervous system balance

Hypnosis and meditation overlap in some ways- they both involve shifts in attention, but they serve different purposes. Meditation invites stillness whereas hypnosis invites change.

Trauma isn’t defined by what happened, but by how overwhelmed your system felt at the time.

Two people can experience the same event and have completely different internal responses.

EMDR works by helping the brain process what was too much to handle then, so it no longer feels like it’s happening now.
