🍂 Wreath season is here 🍂

There’s something so special about the first signs of autumn arriving at the cottage.

A stone cottage, a wooden door glowing softly beneath twinkling porch lights, and a homegrown wreath made from dried Love in a Mist, those beautiful Nigella seed pods, gathered from the cottage garden and naturally dried.

No artificial flowers or colours. No fuss. Just the gentle beauty of nature, in those soft autumnal shades that whisper that the season is changing. 🤎

A little reminder that autumn is coming… and I’m more than ready for it. 🍁✨

🍅 Garden to Plate Homemade Ratatouille Sauce 🌿

One of my favourite ways to use up a garden full of summer vegetables. It’s simple, nourishing, and perfect for batch cooking.

You’ll need:
🥒 Courgettes
🫑 Peppers
🍅 Mixed tomatoes
🧅 Red onion
🌿 Basil (or whatever fresh herbs you have available)
🧄 Garlic
🌶️ Chilli (optional)
🫒 Good quality olive oil
🧂 Sea salt flakes
⚫ Freshly ground black pepper

Method:
• Rinse and chop all the vegetables.
• Add everything to your slow cooker.
• Drizzle generously with olive oil.
• Season with sea salt, black pepper and fresh herbs, then give it a good mix.
• Cook on High for 2–3 hours or Low all day, until the vegetables are soft and beautifully rich. At this stage cream cheese can be added if you want a creamier sauce.

If you’re trying to encourage little ones to eat more vegetables, simply blend the sauce until smooth. I did this regularly when my five children were growing up, and it was always a winner.

Serve stirred through pasta, alongside a piece of fish or a steak, or enjoy with crusty bread.

It also freezes beautifully for several months, making it the perfect way to use up an abundance of tomatoes and ensure nothing from the garden goes to waste.

✨ A little hoop with a lot of contrast

The crisp white daisy shaped flowers with their striking black centres are beautifully balanced by soft blue and pink sea lavender, while a scattering of muted helichrysum adds lovely texture and depth.

I love how these hoops can transform a space, hang one on a wall for a gentle botanical touch or prop it on a dresser nestled between your favourite vintage finds for an effortlessly timeless look.

Cornflowers have completely stolen my heart. 💙

There’s something so simple and beautiful about them. Their vibrant blue flowers weave through the garden, attracting bees, butterflies and other pollinators, bringing every corner to life.

While the prolonged hot temperatures have left many of my garden plants struggling this summer, the wildflowers, sunflowers and ornamental grasses have thrived. They’ve been the real stars of the garden, proving just how resilient prairie style planting can be.

It’s made my mind up for next year, I want even more natural, wild spaces filled with drought tolerant plants that flower again and again, whatever the weather.

One of my favourite parts of the day is spending an hour deadheading the wild area. It’s buzzing with wildlife, and every evening I spot dozens of new buds ready to burst open by the following morning. The garden is constantly changing, and that’s the magic of it.
