“Wearing your heart on your face.”
Ever heard the phrase?
According to Dr Stephen Porges, creator of Polyvagal Theory, our facial expressions, voice and body language can all reflect how safe or stressed we feel.
When we feel safe, we may appear more expressive and connected. When we feel threatened, we may become less animated, our voice may change, and connection can feel harder.
Our bodies often communicate before we find the words.
So, when you notice yourself changing, pause and ask:
“What is my nervous system communicating?”
And:
“What might help me feel a little safer?” 🤍
