When was the last time you asked yourself what you actually want?

Last night, as we celebrated the Summer Solstice, I found myself reflecting on how easily we can lose sight of ourselves.
As women, many of us become experts at looking after everyone else.
We support our families.
We care for loved ones.
We meet deadlines.
We juggle responsibilities.
We put other people’s needs first.
And somewhere along the way, we stop asking ourselves an important question:
What do I want?
Not what everyone else expects of me.
Not what I “should” be doing.
Not what’s easiest for everyone around me.
But what truly feels right for me?

I’ve certainly been guilty of people-pleasing and putting myself at the bottom of the list.
For years, I was so focused on doing, achieving and caring for others that I rarely stopped to check whether the life I was living still aligned with the person I was becoming.
Sometimes life’s biggest transitions invite us to pause and reflect.
To reconnect with our values.
To let go of what no longer serves us.
And to create space for what matters most.

The Summer Solstice reminds us that growth happens when we bring awareness to where we are and where we want to go.

High-functioning overwhelm is still overwhelm.

Today marks one year since my breast cancer operation.

It’s a day that brings mixed emotions.

Gratitude.
Relief.
Reflection.
And if I’m honest, a little overwhelm too.

Because something I’ve learned over the past year is that overwhelm doesn’t always look like falling apart.

Sometimes it looks like carrying on.

Showing up.
Smiling.
Running a business.
Supporting others.
Keeping life moving forward.

While quietly processing everything that has happened.

I’ve spent much of my life being the person who gets on with things.

The person who copes.

The person who keeps going.

But this past year has reminded me that just because we’re functioning doesn’t mean we’re not overwhelmed.

Sometimes we’re so busy doing all the things that we don’t notice how exhausted we really are.

Physically.
Emotionally.
Mentally.

Sometimes we become disconnected from ourselves because we’re focused on getting through the day rather than checking in with how we’re truly feeling.

Today, instead of pushing those feelings aside, I’m choosing to acknowledge them.

To be kind to myself.

To honour the journey.

And to remember that it’s okay not to have everything figured out.

It’s okay to feel grateful and overwhelmed at the same time.
