🏏 1XI Match Report 🏏

With the 2XI unfortunately rained off, our 1XI were the club's only Saturday side in action in what proved to be a stop-start game due to the weather.

Batting first, Dawdon found themselves 59-3 when Cevat Sahin was dismissed, bringing Vice Captain Brad Robinson to the crease to join Pasindu Thirimadura. The pair steadied the innings brilliantly, adding 121 runs for the 4th wicket. The partnership may well have been even bigger if Brad hadn’t run out of fuel between the wickets!

Pasindu was the standout performer with a superb 90, falling just short of a deserved century when caught on the boundary with only five balls remaining in the innings. Brad finished unbeaten on 31* after a hard-working knock that reportedly required a defibrillator during the interval!

Dawdon closed on 183-4 from 37 overs, with the innings reduced due to the weather.

Further interruptions during Eppleton's chase resulted in a revised target of 181. Eppleton reached it in the 29th over for the loss of four wickets, with Praveen Da Silva leading the way with 53*.

With the ball, Pasindu completed an excellent all-round performance by claiming 2-33, while a special mention goes to Jaxon Head for stepping up and taking a wicket.

Eppleton won by 6 wickets.

🏆 Player of the Match: Pasindu Thirimadura

🏏1XI TEAM NEWS🏏

Today the 1st XI host a strong Eppleton side, but the lads will be looking to keep the winning ways and make it another successful Saturday at Dawdon.

Few changes to the team this week….

Harry Batty is unavailable after disappearing to a birthday party. Steven Merrington and Lennon Richards haven’t been seen since leaving Alcatraz on Saturday night. Chris Geode has opted to spend the day playing a trumpet on a boat along the River Durham. An interesting choice but apparently better than spending a day with Jacka!

Returning to the fold are Farooq Din and Liam Stores who return to the side after making themselves available again. Liam Cowell also earns a call up this week to strengthen with both Bat and Ball. Jaxon Head also gets the nod after some recent strong performances.

As always shout out to the player sponsors and match ball sponsor this week EMB Customs

🏏 FIRST WIN OF THE SEASON! 🏏

Our 1XI got their season up and running in style on Saturday with a hard-fought 6-run victory over Hunwick Cricket Club in the DNECL Division 1.

Batting first, Dawdon posted 117 all out, with
excellent contributions from:
🔹 Harry Batty – 26
🔹 James Dent – 22
🔹 Brad Robinson – 20

Defending a modest total, the lads made the perfect start with the ball, reducing Hunwick to 8-2. Although the visitors recovered to 51-4, a brilliant spell saw Dawdon take 4 wickets for just 7 runs to swing the game back in our favour.

Hunwick kept battling and threatened to chase down the target, but Dawdon held their nerve to bowl them out for 111, securing a thrilling 6-run win and our first victory of the season to kick-start the campaign. 👏

⭐ Player of the Match – Steven-Lee Merrington An outstanding spell of 4-15 helped lead the side to victory, while Liam Mulley also claimed 4-43 in a superb bowling performance.

A fantastic team effort and hopefully the first of many wins this season! 👊

Yesterday afternoon the 2XI travelled to Durham City for round 1 of the RH West cup.

With abit of a miss match coming up against a Div 2 Durham City side it was always going to be an uphill battle.

Skipper won the toss again, and put the lads in to bat.

With not the best of starts losing the openers quickly Liam Cowell & Johnny Lambert put up a short stint of resistance and adding some IPL inspired shots also!

The innings lost momentum with regular wickets leaving us well under par at 66-7 after our 15 overs.

Even with an early wicket in the first over of our bowling stint Durham were always in control and showed the ease of picking up runs by running between the wickets, one for our team to learn from.

Durham came through easily with the win and we wish them the best of luck for the rest of the cup.

Thanks again to all our sponsors!
