Do you know the 4 Ts of type 1 diabetes?

Type 1 diabetes is a condition where your body cannot make a hormone called insulin. This causes your blood sugar to get too high, and needs to be managed every day.

The most common symptoms are the 4 Ts:

Toilet
Thirsty
Tired
Thinner

If you think you or your child has any of these symptoms, ask for an urgent GP appointment or call 111.

Do you help a family member, friend or neighbour with shopping, appointments, medication, paperwork, personal care, or simply checking they're okay?
You may be an unpaid Carer without realising it.

Many people provide unpaid care and support but don't identify as Carers, meaning they miss out on help that's available to them!

This Carers Week, find out what support is available through County Durham & Darlington Carer Support, who offer advice, information, emotional support, training, wellbeing activities, opportunities to connect with other Carers and much more.

During May 2026, 197 patients did not attend their appointment.

If you are unable to attend your scheduled appointment, please inform the surgery at your earliest convenience so that the appointment can be offered to another patient.

Missed appointments reduces availability and means longer waiting times for everyone, so your call really makes a difference.

Why Attending or Cancelling Your GP Appointment Is Important

Each year, thousands of GP appointments are missed without notice. This not only affects your care, but also impacts other patients and the NHS as a whole.

Did You Know?

• Over 15 million GP appointments are missed every
year in the UK.
• Each missed appointment costs the NHS around
£30-£40.
• That adds up to nearly £600 million annually—
enough to fund:

▪️Thousands of extra nurses and doctors
▪️Millions of prescriptions
▪️More community health services

What Happens When You Miss an Appointment?

• Wasted Time: GPs and staff prepare for each
appointment in advance.
• Longer Waits: Missed slots could be used by other
patients in need.
• System Strain: It puts additional pressure on already
stretched NHS services.

We appreciate your cooperation and support in helping us provide an efficient service to all patients.

We are monitoring all DNA’s and should we identify any frequent offenders the practice will contact the patients directly.
