There’s still a few spaces left for our Wise Women Gathering 🌿🐴

What if this stage of your life isn’t about becoming someone new, but about becoming more fully yourself?

Midlife can be a strange and wonderful threshold.

Perhaps you’re navigating perimenopause or menopause.
Perhaps life has changed in ways you didn’t expect.
Perhaps you’ve spent years looking after other people and are beginning to wonder what you want now.

Or perhaps you’re simply ready to pause and ask:

Who am I now, and what do I want the next chapter to look like?

Our Wise Women Gatherings are gentle, reflective afternoons for women in midlife and beyond. They’re a chance to step away from the noise of everyday life and spend time with other women and our beautiful herd of horses.

There is something about being alongside horses that invites us to slow down and become more present.

They don’t care about our age, our achievements, our appearance or what we think we should be doing.

They simply meet us where we are.

Across three afternoons, we’ll create space to explore your own inner “wise woman” — the part of you that perhaps knows more than you give her credit for.

There will be opportunities for reflection, connection, gentle mindfulness and time with the horses, with plenty of space for conversation, laughter, quiet and whatever emerges naturally.

You don’t need to have any particular experience of horses, there’s no riding and you don’t have to consider yourself “wise”!

This is a space to be seen and heard without judgement, to connect with other women and perhaps rediscover some of the strength, freedom, joy and authenticity that can come with this stage of life.

Karen will be joined by Daimon Adams, an experienced and reflective Equine Facilitated Practitioner.

🌿 Three summer afternoon sessions
🐴 No riding
🌿 No previous horse experience required
🐴 Trauma informed
🌿 Neurodivergent friendly

You can book individual sessions, or join us for all three at a discounted rate.

Perhaps this isn’t the end of something. Perhaps it’s the beginning of a chapter that is more truly yours. 🧡

Come and spend a morning with the horses. 🐴🌿

You don’t need to be horsey.

You don’t need to know what you’re doing.

You don’t need to talk about your feelings.

And you certainly don’t need to be “fixed”.

Just come as you are.

There is something about being alongside horses that can make it easier to slow down and step away from the noise of everyday life.

They live in the moment.
They notice what is happening around them.
They don’t judge us.
And they don’t expect us to be anything other than who we are.

Hoof & Harmony is a gentle, small-group experience for women who would like some space to breathe, decompress and reconnect with themselves.

Perhaps you’re feeling stressed or overwhelmed.

Perhaps your mind never seems to switch off.

Perhaps you’re looking after everyone else and have forgotten what it feels like to have some time that is just for you.

Or perhaps you simply love the idea of spending a morning with horses in a beautiful, supportive environment.

There will be opportunities to gently explore mindfulness, grounding and connection through time alongside the herd, but there is no pressure to participate in any particular way.

You can be curious.
You can be quiet.
You can watch.
You can interact with the horses.
You can simply sit and breathe.

Karen will be joined by the wonderfully creative and intuitive Equine Facilitated Practitioner Poppy Luxford.

I am excited to be hosting a couple of fabulous groups for women with two of my very skilled and talented fellow practitioners, along with the gentle herd of horses, at Horserenity in Blandford Forum. They will run over three weeks in August (13th, 20th and 27th).

Why Horses?
Horses have a beautiful way of bringing us into the present moment. They don't judge, rush, or expect anything from us. Instead, they encourage us to slow down, become more aware of ourselves, and reconnect with a sense of calm. Many people find that spending mindful time with horses helps them to feel more grounded, emotionally settled and better able to cope with the stresses of everyday life. There is no riding in any of our sessions and absolutely no prior experience with horses is required.

Hoof and Harmony Women's Group:
For the morning slot (10am-12 noon), I will be joined by Poppy Luxford, a creative and intuitive Equine Facilitated Practitioner.

If you are a woman, of any age, who feels stressed and anxious and would like a peaceful and safe place to reduce overwhelm, calm your nervous system and to learn some simple techniques for managing anxiety then this could be the place for you.

Each session will include time to slow down and connect in with your body, creating an opportunity to notice your own needs and begin responding in different ways.

Wise Women’s Gathering:
For the afternoon slot (1.15-3.15pm) I will be co-hosting with experienced and reflective Equine Facilitated Practitioner, Daimon Adams.

If you are a midlife woman who has lost your connection to yourself or would simply like a break from the demands of daily life, then take some time with us.

Each session will include space to both express and acknowledge the challenges that this life stage can bring, as well as celebrating the strengths and freedoms that you can move towards once you have deeply listened to yourself.

Strength in Community and Sharing
We will be using simple meditation, grounding, mindfulness, awareness and breathing techniques, including lots of adaptations to find what works for you. There will be opportunities to share and you are free to choose how much or how little you wish. Working with horses can help generate words, emotions and quiet silence.

There will be plenty of time to interact with the horses whilst exploring some of the themes that arise and learning strategies to feel more empowered and in control.

All sessions will be run in a neurodivergent friendly and trauma-informed way. Whilst you will probably get the most from attending all three sessions, we understand this isn't always possible, so you are very welcome to book sessions individually.

And in case you don’t know me, I am Dr Karen Janes, Psychologist, Equine Facilitated Therapist, Energy Healer and Reiki Teacher. I very much look forward to welcoming you.

Take a moment to pause and tune into wherever you are 🧡

Take a moment to pause and tune into wherever you are 🧡

The mare hadn't moved in almost twenty minutes.

She wasn't sleeping.

She wasn't eating.

She wasn't looking for anyone.

She was simply standing in the morning sun.

One ear drifted toward another horse.

A bird landed somewhere behind her.

A breeze lifted a few strands of her mane.

That was enough.

Years ago, I might have watched her and thought,

"She must be bored."

Now I'm not so sure.

I wonder if "bored" is one of those words we invented because we've forgotten what it feels like to simply exist.

Humans have become remarkably uncomfortable with moments that aren't entertaining.

If nothing is happening, we reach for a phone.

Turn on music.

Start another project.

Find something to improve.

But the horses remind me that perhaps something is happening.

Perhaps we're just not practiced at noticing it.

The warmth of the sun.

The movement of the air.

The sounds of birds.

The presence of other horses nearby.

A world that's alive without asking us to perform in it.

I don't think that mare was waiting for her real life to begin.

I think she was already living it.

And standing there, watching her...

For a few quiet minutes...

So was I.

This is just one reason why equine facilitated therapy and learning can help us.

𝗪𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗱𝗱𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝘂𝗿𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁.

Spend an hour watching a herd and something uncomfortable becomes obvious.

They are not slow.
We are frantic.

We have normalised a pace of life that is biologically unsustainable.
Instant replies. Same-day delivery. Tescos 𝘞𝘩𝘰𝘰𝘴𝘩. The obsession with immediacey.

The constant low-level vibration of what’s next?

Our nervous systems are stuck in a permanent high-frequency buzz.

Then you walk into the stable.

A horse does not live in “Clock Time” (Chronos).
They live in “Deep Time” (Kairos).

They do not know it is Tuesday.
They do not know you are late.
They only know Now.

When you enter their space, you hit a wall of stillness.

And if we are honest, at first it’s annoying.
You want to rush the process. Hurry up and catch. Hurry up and groom. Hurry up and get the job done.

You arrive carrying the momentum of your entire workday.

But the horse refuses to hurry.

𝗧𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗿.
𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗺 🌧

This is where the science of entrainment kicks in.

Physics tells us that when two oscillating systems meet, they eventually sync.
The stronger rhythm pulls the weaker one into line.

A horse’s heart rate is slower.
Their breathing is deeper.
Their electromagnetic field is larger.

They are the stronger rhythm.

They drag you out of the speed of wifi and drop you back into the speed of blood.
The speed of breath.
The speed of the earth turning 🌎

You think you are waiting for them to react.
But really, they are waiting for you to arrive.

Because until you slow down, you are not truly there.
You are just a body vibrating with tomorrow’s to-do list.

By the time you leave the yard, you haven’t completed a task.
You have stepped out of the rat race and remembered you are a mammal. 🐴

Slow down.
The email will still be there tomorrow.
This breath won’t. 🫁
