THE RIGHT PERSON FOR THE RIGHT JOB OR JUST A NAME IN A SLOT?
Do security companies really care who they deploy on a task?
The good ones do. Unfortunately, poor operators can become more concerned with filling numbers than fielding quality.
Sometimes it feels like the objective is simple:
Get the names in the slots.
Get a YES on the board.
Get the invoice covered.
Then switch the ops phone off.
But security shouldn't work like that.
Having an SIA licence doesn't automatically make somebody suitable for every role.
A busy festival, corporate event, residential security task, high-risk venue and close-protection operation can require completely different experience, temperament, communication skills and operational awareness.
The right person should be put on the right job.
That means knowing your personnel.
Knowing their experience.
Knowing their strengths and weaknesses.
Proper briefings.
Proper supervision.
And having an operations team that actually supports the people they've deployed.
When greed and desperation for contracts take over, standards can quickly become secondary to numbers.
And who ultimately pays the price?
The client.
The public.
The professional operatives trying to do the job properly.
And eventually, the reputation of the security industry itself.
(Which is a sinking ship)
I've worked in this industry long enough to know there are some outstanding companies and operatives out there.
But we also need to be prepared to call out poor standards.
A filled shift isn't necessarily a properly staffed shift.
Security is about people, professionalism and capability not just putting a name on a spreadsheet.
Quality over quantity.
Standards over greed.
The right person for the right job.
