Downsizing your piercing jewellery is an important part of the healing process. When you first get pierced, a longer bar is usually fitted to allow room for swelling. Once the initial swelling has gone down, that bar may become too long.
✨Why is downsizing important?✨
✔️Prevents irritation and bumps — jewellery that is too long can move around excessively, irritating the piercing and contributing to irritation bumps.
✔️Reduces the risk of snagging — shorter, correctly fitted jewellery is less likely to catch on hair, clothing, towels or bedding.
✔️Helps prevent migration and damage — excessive movement and pressure can contribute to problems with the piercing channel.
✔️Improves comfort — properly fitted jewellery is generally more comfortable for everyday activities and sleeping.
✔️Supports healing — a suitable jewellery length helps reduce unnecessary movement and irritation as your piercing heals.
✔️Helps jewellery sit correctly — the right length gives the piercing a more secure, comfortable fit. 
✨When should you downsize?✨
Downsizing should be based on your piercing’s swelling and how it is healing, rather than a fixed date. Your piercer can assess when it is ready and change the jewellery safely. Don’t downsize too early while swelling is still present, as jewellery that is too short can become embedded. 
❌Important: Downsizing does not mean your piercing is fully healed. Continue your aftercare, and have a qualified piercer carry out jewellery changes during healing.

A guide on what to wear

Your tattoo appointment is all about keeping you comfortable — and wearing the right clothing can make a huge difference, especially during longer sessions.

✨ WEAR LOOSE, COMFORTABLE CLOTHING
Choose something relaxed that gives easy access to the area being tattooed.

✨ CONSIDER THE PLACEMENT
Think about where your tattoo is going to be and choose clothing that allows the area to be exposed without having to remove multiple layers.

✨ BRING A SPARE LAYER
Studios can sometimes feel cool, so bring a hoodie, cardigan or extra layer to keep you warm and comfortable.

✨ UNDERWEAR & PROTECTION
Wear underwear you feel comfortable having moved or adjusted if necessary. For larger pieces, bringing a spare pair can be a good idea.

✨ COMFORTABLE FOOTWEAR
Choose supportive, comfortable shoes — especially if you’re going to be sitting or lying in one position for a longer session.

✨ KEEP IT SIMPLE
Avoid complicated fastenings or tight clothing that could rub against or irritate your fresh tattoo.

Most importantly, wear something you feel comfortable and confident in. 🤍
