Little things I do to feel more positive 🤍
What self-care actually looks like for me…
I’ve learned myself well enough now to recognise when my mental health is starting to dip.
And when it does, I know I need to actively engage in my own self-care.
Not necessarily huge things.
Just small, intentional things that help me feel a little more like myself again.
✨ Wear the outfit.
After losing nearly 9 stone, sometimes my brain still sees the old version of me when I look in the mirror. There are clothes I have to almost force myself to wear because I don't feel completely comfortable in them yet.
But the afterglow when I do?
Amazing. ❤️
🧹 Keep my days productive.
Clear out a cupboard. Reorganise a shelf. Do the washing — and actually put it away! 😂
Declutter a drawer. Or walk around the house with a black bag and a NO MERCY mindset.
It doesn't have to be the whole house.
One room.
One cupboard.
One drawer.
Start there.
🚿 Look after my body.
Have a shower. Wash my hair. De-fuzz. Moisturise. Use the expensive toiletries I've been "saving for best".
🛏️ Clean bedding & fresh PJs.
Honestly, sometimes that's therapy in itself.
🌿 Get outside.
Even if it's only ten minutes. Fresh air. Nature. A little walk. Getting out of the four walls and letting my brain breathe.
🏋🏼♀️ Move my body.
Go to the gym if time allows. If it doesn't, run around the field with the dog, because moving makes my mind feel better and I never leave the gym wishing I hadn't gone!
💧 Drink some water.
Add electrolytes. Hydrate. Give my body something it actually needs.
🥂 See my friends.
Talk. Laugh. Get dressed up. Go for lunch.
Be ladies who lunch. 💁🏼♀️
None of these things will magically fix poor mental health.
But I've learned that looking after my mental health isn't only about what I do when I'm struggling.
It's about knowing myself well enough to notice the little signs that tell me I'm starting to struggle — and responding to them.
Sometimes self-care is rest.
Sometimes it's getting up, washing your hair, opening the curtains, putting on the outfit, clearing out that drawer and getting yourself outside.
Self-care is knowing what helps you come back to yourself — and choosing to do it, especially when you don't particularly feel like it. 🤍
