What a brilliant workshop yesterday! Pelvic health in perimenopause and beyond 💚.

I had the pleasure of joining the amazing Sarah Titman from . Sarah is a wonderful pelvic health physiotherapist. She’s so knowledgeable and passionate. As I always say to my patients: no one has ever regretted having an assessment with someone like Sarah.

What really stood out is that, on average, women wait 7 years before seeking help.

We covered symptoms many women experience but rarely talk about; urinary frequency, incontinence, vaginal dryness, and painful s*x. We had a practical demonstration on how to correctly engage and train the pelvic floor (with around 50% of us doing it incorrectly!).

Most importantly, we broke down taboos and had honest conversations. These are common, treatable issues, and no one should feel embarrassed to seek help.

Please don’t suffer in silence 🤍

Thank you so much for your hospitality Nancy and Joy too. You are both brilliant at spreading the word; encouraging women to seek help and support.

I see patients in person at in Sheffield, as well as online.

I’m really looking forward to two workshops coming up in early 2026. If you’d like to join us on Saturday 17th January, please message for details.

Plans are also underway for another collaboration with the brilliant pelvic health physiotherapist Sarah Titman — watch this space ✨

Hello 👋. I’m Laura Cawley. I am a GP and menopause specialist. I trained as a BMS accredited menopause specialist and am proud to work with a great team at with the amazing . I love being able to provide holistic care for my patients, and it’s not all about HRT. Adjustments in lifestyle can make a massive difference to someone’s wellbeing, especially in times of turbulence in the menopause.

I am also really proud to be part of an amazing NHS team, providing menopause treatment and women’s health awareness in a local community situated in Sheffield. Our team offering this service has recently won a ‘Healthcare People Management Association award’ in the category ‘NHS employers award for wellbeing’.

I also fit coils and do other gynaecological procedures in an NHS community gynaecology clinic in Sheffield.

Teaching is a big part of my career now too. I teach medical students, nurses and allied health care professionals. I also love my menopause awareness and question and answer sessions which I offer to my local community which is a great way to share knowledge.

There is a still a way to go. Many women still can’t access good menopause care or the right information. I often find myself nudging people to seek a second opinion when I get the questions at the end of a Q&S session that I’ve led.

If I’m not working or corralling my young football mad boys I’m swimming, or thinking about swimming! As we step into the colder months I can’t wait for the shivery and laughter filled dips and swims with my friends!

If you’ve been thinking about accessing help for your symptoms I urge you to do it now. Why suffer in silence? GP awareness has come on massively and there is more specialised help if that is what you need at clinics like Menopause Care or you can be asked to be referred on the NHS too.

Bookings to see me can be made via the link in my bio.

Swimspiration 💙

Just me banging on about swimming again 😁. Here’s some photos taken from our holiday to the Isle of Skye for half term. The blue skies and high pressure weather system was a massive treat. Don’t be fooled by the Caribbean looking water….it was most definitely around the 10 degree mark, my joints felt it was probably colder! I have had a lull in my swimming since the disappointment of the cancelled Scottish Winter Swimming championships due to sewage 😭. I think my passion has been reignited and I’m now back on it and ready to persuade anyone who will listen, to give it a go!

Here’s a lovely comment from a fellow Pilates goer: ‘Thank you Laura Cawley for getting me into outdoor swimming. I can honestly say it has been a life changer.’ Lots of my patients share my passion and some have even been persuaded to start and thank me in their follow up consultations, with a massive grin on their face when they tell me how it went! One of my patients did her iTows (introduction to open water swimming) course with in April (in pretty cold water!) 🙌🏻. If you want to try cold water swimming start now and swim through the summer and then keep going throughout the autumn and winter so you’ll slowly become acclimatised. If you’re a fair weather swimmer that’s completely fine too! Remember never swim alone and never jump into cold water!!

Menopause care isn’t all about HRT. That is one part of the jigsaw for some people. Lifestyle changes make up a massive part of it. Not everyone will be a open water swimmer but you never know until you try it. I’ve written a piece for website: https://menopausecare.co.uk/cold-water-swimming/

Happy swimming 🏊‍♀️ 💙🤍

When it comes to menopause education, knowledge is power! I’ve been enjoying speaking to groups in various venues including , , and at a local junior school. All these places are important to me so it’s been great to be able to share my knowledge and help empower women.
🎤
I never thought of myself as a public speaker but I’ve been trying to embrace it and move out of my comfort zone (and breathing through those initial nerves!). I’ve even been on (and BBC Radio Berkshire!!) in the last two weeks too. Now those experiences provoked a faster heart rate for sure but I survived and actual words came out of my mouth 😂.
🎤
It’s lovely to get feedback after each session. I use it to make tweaks for my next talk.
🎤
At the most recent talk at the school, lots of women came up to me after and said they felt more confident to ask for help, or even go back and make tweaks to their current treatment.
