Hope everyone is coping through this very long and cold lockdown.

It is really difficult to keep fit and healthy especially if you are isolating or can’t cope with the cold weather very well. If you need any equipment to help you then please see the information below about how you can apply to buy some sports or exercise item that costs up to £60! Please note this is just for Sheffield residents.

It will be first come, first served, have an upper limit of - £60.00 per person and one item per person.

Sheffield Cycling 4 All (SC4A) is a project run by Disability Sheffield and they are committing to £1,000.00 of sports or exercise equipment to Autistic adults who live in Sheffield, via the Autism Steering Group
This offer is not indefinite and will review this fund when COVID restrictions no longer apply.

Can I apply for equipment? - If you are an Autistic person living in Sheffield, YES.

What can I apply for? - Any single sports or exercise item that is £60 or less, and that Sheffield Cycling 4 All can buy and get delivered to you at home.

How do I apply for equipment? - You can either email [email protected] or phone or text 07565695296.

Will I have to pay anything? No. We will be asking you to fill out 2 forms. The first one at the beginning and second three months later. This is so we can monitor how you are getting on and if the exercise equipment has made a difference to you. We would also love photos of you enjoying the kit.

What?
Research among non-Autistic people suggest an association between someone’s social identity and their wellbeing. We would like to explore whether this association also exists in Autistic people, and how it may be different or similar to non-Autistic people.

Who?
We want to recruit Autistic and non-Autistic people aged 18 or over, living in the UK.

How?

The Institute of Technology Carlow, Ireland is conducting a survey to find out about the cardiovascular health (heart health) of school going children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and the effect that COVID-19 related restrictions has had on this aspect of their health.
By taking part you will be helping the research team understand some of the risk factors for cardiovascular health in this community and how COVID-19 related restrictions have impacted them.

Extra information about survey
The questionnaire entitle: effect of Covid 19 on the cardiovascular health of children with ASD has been approved by the ethics Committee at I.T Carlow, Ireland and is attached below which will be available for completion on the colleges survey monkey account.

The questionnaire will be filled out by parents of children with ASD and will consist of questions asking relating to them and their child. Within the questionnaire they will be asked about their socio-economic background and the questionnaire will also ask about their ASD child’s cardiovascular health, physical activity levels, sedentary behavior, eating habits and anxiety levels during Covid 19 pandemic compared to normal life before the outbreak. The aim of the questionnaire is to understand how the Covid 19 pandemic has impacted cardiovascular health, physical activity, sedentary behavior, sleep, anxiety levels and eating habits in comparison to before the pandemic.

The questionnaires will be completed online through IT Carlow’s survey monkey, individual results will be anonymous, and results of the questionnaire will be stored on a password protected computer. It will include a consent form explaining that participation in the survey is completely voluntary and they can withdraw at any stage if they wish to do so. If they do not wish to answer a question, there will be a prefer not to say option available and they can continue with the survey. Parents will have an option at the end of the survey to enter their email address which will allow them to partake in any follow up questionnaire study.

Coronavirus Update

Based on last night’s announcement from the Government, we have for the safety of everyone had to make the decision to
cancel our meetings this month to help slow the spread of the coronavirus.
The lunchtime meeting on Wednesday 18 March at the Carers Centre and the Adult Asperger Group meeting on Thursday 26 March at Hallam University are both cancelled.

We will provide updates on Facebook and our website as soon as the situation changes.

Take care everyone and stay safe.

The current advice is that everyone in the UK should now avoid non-essential travel and contact with others.
