4 things that can support your mental health Today is World Mental Health Day.
And here’s something I think we sometimes forget...
𝗬𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗵𝘆𝘀𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗻’𝘁 𝘁𝘄𝗼 𝘀𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀.
How much you move, what you eat, how you sleep and how well you manage stress can all affect how you feel mentally as well as physically.
So if you’ve been feeling tired, anxious, stressed, low on energy or just not quite yourself lately, start with these 4 things:
𝗠𝗢𝗩𝗘 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗕𝗢𝗗𝗬
Exercise isn’t only about losing weight or getting fitter.
It can help reduce stress and anxiety, lift your mood and give you that feeling of achievement that you simply don’t get from sitting on the sofa thinking about exercising.
𝗘𝗔𝗧 𝗕𝗘𝗧𝗧𝗘𝗥
What you eat affects your energy, blood sugar and how you feel throughout the day.
If you’re constantly running on processed food, sugar and snacks, don’t be surprised if your energy and mood are all over the place too.
You don’t need to be perfect. 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳𝘁𝗲𝗻.
𝗦𝗢𝗥𝗧 𝗬𝗢𝗨𝗥 𝗦𝗟𝗘𝗘𝗣
This one is huge.
When you don’t sleep properly, everything feels harder.
You’re more stressed, less motivated and much more likely to reach for the wrong foods the following day.
𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗥𝗡 𝗧𝗢 𝗠𝗔𝗡𝗔𝗚𝗘 𝗦𝗧𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗦
We can’t remove every stressful situation from our lives.
But we can get better at how our body responds to it.
Long-term stress can keep your nervous system switched on and affect hormones such as cortisol, which can then make sleeping properly much harder.
And that creates a knock-on effect.
𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 → 𝘀𝗹𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 → 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 → 𝗯𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀 → 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝘅𝗲𝗿𝗰𝗶𝘀𝗲.
Everything starts working together.
You don’t always need another complicated plan.
𝗦𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗴𝗲𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗯𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗰𝘀 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸 𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹.
