What a way to spend Father’s Day! Big up the team 🙌🏼

Sheffield sprint triathlon was the best yet. Racing alongside clients. Nothing beats it!

Massive shout out to Sarah H and for all there hard work for this. Both had their own challenges in prep but crossed that finish line like champs.

Thanks for the support. Love you to everyone who came down ♥️🌹

This one meant a lot ✊🏼

Some thought it was unwise to compete.
Some thought it was madness.
Some thought it was admirable.

Injuries and set backs are part and parcel. Rare I’ve entered any event with a body that feels optimal.

All you can do is follow your gut and do what you think is right.

Might get stung. Might walk home with a medal.

No regrets. I’d do it all over again just to see that look of admiration in her little face.

Swim, bike, run 🫡

Big step forward in the triathlon training with a mock Olympic Tri this morning.

Testing out the tri-suit. Seeing if the legs can cope. Trialling some new energy gels.

Nothing to shout home about pace wise, just enjoying being out there.

Shame we couldn’t organise an outdoor swim but hopeful I’ll get the wet suit on before 7th June.

Massive shout out to Sarah who joined me 🙌🏼

A long term client who’s recently joined and has her first sprint triathlon next month too.

Morning well spent 😎

“I just wanna look like I go to the gym” - James Carnall 4 months ago.

3 years into training and the newbie gains had ran out, the wheels were officially spinning for James.

There’s no greater motivation killer than lack of progress. Slogging it out in the gym, but your physique and performance aren’t matching your effort.

So common. Even with all the info out there today.

So what went wrong?

As most do, James spent too long on the same program, he wasn’t being savvy with his nutrition and he wasn’t working muscles well enough to stimulate growth.

We had a big overhaul of his program. He learned about periodisation, the minutiae around exercise ex*****on, learnt how to push himself a little harder (he’ll admit, still an ongoing mission), plus what needs to be consumed to achieve the shape he wanted.

James’s discipline and thirst for knowledge has made his first 4 months here at R5 a very productive one.

Great work mate 🫱🏼‍🫲🏽

100km ticked off ✅ ouch!

Had to go to that place this morning. Pain cave after 75km.

Pork pies still the elite endurance fuel. Low volume high cal. Perfect for the back pouch stash.

Another big week all round. Swimming just felt smooth and getting more effortless. You know it’s getting there when 1k flies by without checking that watch.

I still need to be quicker on the runs. I know that. Pulled a hammy last month and it put me off sprints. Back in this week so far so good.

Definitely eyeing up some 70.3’s 🫣

After 11 years in business, you’ll do well to find anyone with a bad word to say about R5.

Rare in an industry rife with charlatans.

This is my passion, my purpose, R5 it’s my life’s work.

You can’t fake that. Just like to can’t fake these reviews and the reputation that’s been built.

Hell, i’d do this for free if I didn’t have to keep the lights on 😂

Watching others perform better, progress further, optimise their routine, all whilst looking good doing it. Nothing better!

I couldn’t imagine doing anything else.

Best job in the world (although ‘job’ is a strong word 😅)

Thanks for the lovely words from everyone above and the 100’s of other reviews R5 has had 🙏🏼

Solid first quarter 🔋

It’s taken some trial and error but the weekly training split seems to have been cracked.

A lot of moving parts with the addition of cycling and swimming over the past 6 months.

Trying to improve across a lot of disciplines is a logistical nightmare some weeks, not to mention doing everything I can to not look like a runner or cyclist 😅

(no offence my runners/cyclists 🙏🏼)

But I’m ticking boxes much more consistently this year with the help of a time management planner and a hard line on saying no to stuff.

Double days and doms very much the norm.

With calorie burn so high, I’ve stepped away from MFP for first time in over a decade.

Instead I’ve had a big push on eliminating UPF’s. Some really simple swaps and label checking have kept nutrition quality much higher.

(Before you ask, monster’s aren’t out, that’s a UPF I can’t let go 😂)

Just more intuitive eating. Responding when I feel ravenous, tapering back when I don’t.

Recovery protocols have gone from an occasional fall back, to a daily necessity. You name it I’m probably doing it.

Not to mention work, family, social life and everything in between.

The immediate goal is a triathlon, but I’ll layup cards on the table and say there’s an 18 month plan in place for a full iron man. Scary thought rn.

It’s certainly the most meaningful and fulfilling training had felt in a long time.

The reward really is in the work.

Roll on Q2 💪🏼
