About me

For anyone who doesn't know me ..

I used to live in Hitchin and moved to Shefford, Bedfordshire, 2 years ago. Shortly after moving, I met my partner Matthew 💜

We have a little dog who likes to come to work with me (when my clients request her to do so). She is my unofficial support dog 🐕 ❤️

I have a grown up daughter who lives nearby who also works in a similar work role. I am very proud of her 💖

In my spare time I help my partner with his entertainment business as a DJ 🎵🎧🎉 I really enjoy it!

I love music and include it in my therapy role. I am currently learning to play the handpan drum 🥁I also love nature, trips to Norfolk (one of my favourite places) cookery and all things holistic 🌿

I have recently started drawing and have bought some watercolour paints 🎨 inspired by a client

I have another business enterprise Soothe-Holistics offering therapy treatments including massage, reflexology and reiki healing ✨️💜

I am passionate about supporting people with their well-being. Work doesn't feel like a job to me. I meet some wonderful people and their loved ones who are like family to me.

My lovely lady, who I support at home and out in the community has a passion for music and dance.

She has always wanted to play the guitar 🎸
Her dream came true when we attended the Music24 group in Stevenage.

Music is great therapy and so beneficial for people living with dementia 🎶

It can:

🌼Unlock memories, taking people back to happy moments from their past. This, in turn can really open up the conversation and help with recalling more memories.

🌼Help people feel calmer, more connected, and more like themselves.

🌼Supports well-being and creates moments of joy, instantly lifting the mood.

I love spending time with the people I support. It's equally great for my own well-being and is so rewarding.

What I have learnt 👇

I often ask for advice and ideas which gives people a purpose, making them feel useful & helping them feel good about themselves.

This takes away from me visiting as a 'carer', creating feelings of sharing time with a friend instead. In the meantime I am supporting with what's needed without it being noticed too much. It is a gentle approach to support and care which gains trust.

Here is a video of one of my ladies who has inspired me to start drawing. It was so relaxing watching her and also created the opportunity to learn more about how she was feeling, dealing with the grief of losing her husband and being diagnosed with dementia. Moments like these are heartwarming as we share a connection and find ways to heal and cope, day to day 💕

Bringing my dog was requested by the lady's family . Here is Stella, being the model for the morning and providing laughter, smiles and cuddles 😊💕

Thank you As One Community Choir for a truly uplifting experience 🎶🩷 here at the Together Group in Letchworth today.
It was wonderful to see the reactions and engagement from the whole group, including the lady I support, who freely got up to dance!

The Together Groups are open to people living with dementia and their family, friends and carers across Hertfordshire.

Here is an explanation of
'The Care Act 2014' and how I implement it into my role.

The Care Act 2014 is an important piece of legislation governing Adult Social Care in England. It created a national framework for how adults with care and support needs are assessed and supported. The act places legal duties on local authorities to ensure adults receive appropriate care, support, and protection, while promoting independence, choice, and wellbeing.

At Empress Home Care and Therapies, I work independently to provide personalised support reflecting the principles of the Care Act 2014. My care planning approach focuses on putting the individual at the centre of their care, ensuring that their wishes, preferences, and wellbeing are always respected. I work together with each person to develop a care plan that supports their independence, dignity, and quality of life within their own home. By taking the time to understand what matters most to each individual, I can offer flexible care and therapeutic support that promotes both physical and emotional wellbeing. I also remain mindful of safeguarding responsibilities and, where appropriate, signpost individuals to other services that may further support their needs.
