Considering where to give birth is no small thing.

You need to understand the context you are birthing in in order to make an informed choice.

Somerset has quite a wide range of options, and knowing how the system works will help you choose with confidence and streamline your journey.

As a doula and former midwife, I know all the 'quirks' of the system. I know how to navigate trust boundaries, postcode catchments, and hospital politics. So I've whacked some of that wisdom down into a blog post for you. In it we look at:

- The range of local birth settings in Somerset: what they offer, what they're good for, and what to watch out for.

- Practical logistics: Crucial tips on postcode catchment areas, why you should confirm coverage early, and how switching trusts works if your plans change.

- Independent stats & reviews: Where to find unbiased data and service-user feedback.

Your sensory environment plays a massive role in how safe, grounded, and supported you feel during birth.

As a doula, perinatal yoga instructor, and former midwife who uses aromatherapy, I know this well. I have seen how powerful a tool aromatherapy can be.

Having trained in Aromatherapy for Childbirth, I’ve put together a simple, comprehensive, evidence-based guide to help you use essential oils safely throughout your journey.

In the blog post we explore:

- The research and evidence-base behind aromatherapy for birth.

- How to use olfactory anchoring in pregnancy so your mind instantly recalls relaxation and transports you to a space of calm during labour.

- Phase-by-Phase Application: Step-by-step guidance on blending, diffusing, and using scents from early labour through to the fourth stage.

- Essential Safety Rules: Crucial guidelines on dilution ratios, oils in birth pools, and using aromatherapy in NHS settings.

Where and how you give birth matters far less than how safe you feel inside your own body.

My approach to pregnancy yoga knows and honours this.

Through intuitive movement and breath, I guide you to step out of your thinking mind and trust your instincts. We meet intensity with calm, build whole-body strength and flexibility for the physical demands of parenthood, and practice the art of true rest.

This practice is built to support you throughout pregnancy, birth, postpartum and way beyond.

Join me for weekly group classes in Shepton Mallet (link in bio to book), or contact me to arrange a 1:1 session.

The post-birth period is sacred. It marks your profound transition into parenthood- a monumental transformation of your identity, your body, and your spirit.

Proper postnatal care is not a luxury. It is a vital investment in how you feel, rest, and bond during those precious early weeks and beyond.

Placenta remedies offer a traditional way to honour your body's journey.

Many parents choose remedies to support their personal sense of balance and mindfulness during the early postpartum transition.

Your remedies can also carry the symbolic power of your birth story forward as a lasting source of comfort, accompanying you through future seasons of change, honouring life’s milestones and major transitions.

I offer encapsulation, smoothies and essences for those early weeks, tinctures for the long-haul, and prints/keepsakes that forever celebrate and preserve your birth journey.

If you’re curious about how placenta remedies can help honour your birth and nourish your postpartum recovery, send me a message or get in touch!
