If you haven't had a chance to listen yet, Debbie has shared this brilliant BBC piece with us.

It explores the power of singing and the role it can play in supporting wellbeing, connection and community, which are all subjects close to our hearts at Playing for Cake.

Pour a cuppa and have a listen. 🍰 🎶

Did you know the longest continuous choir performance ever recorded lasted 125 hours?

That's more than five days of non-stop singing.

To celebrate its 125th anniversary, the Berlin Choral Association brought together around 200 choirs, who took turns singing in 30-minute slots from Monday right through to Saturday.

The whole thing was officially recognised as a world record.

So next time someone tells you to keep it down, you can mention that 200 choirs once sang for five days straight and got a certificate for it!

🎶 Got a song stuck in your head?

I heard music psychologist Dr Lauren Stewart talking about earworms at a lecture a while back and she shared a wonderfully simple way to stop that song going round and round in your head.

Chewing gum. There’s actually some science behind the chewing-gum idea. The research suggests that chewing engages our articulatory system, the parts of the mouth and jaw involved in producing speech, which may interfere with the mental rehearsal of a song.

And then there's a wonderfully odd anecdotal tip Dr Stewart mentioned: someone reported that sipping water through a very thin straw helped break their earworm. The theory is similar - get those articulators busy doing something else!

So next time that song refuses to leave your head… grab some chewing gum. Or, if you're feeling experimental, find a very thin straw! 😄
