Here’s a post you could use alongside your video:

One of the most important things we can teach young people is how to understand their own brain and nervous system.

So many of the young people I work with have spent years believing there is something “wrong” with them. They don’t understand why they feel overwhelmed, exhausted, anxious, irritable, or why everyday situations can sometimes feel impossible to manage.

When young people learn to recognise the early signs that their nervous system is becoming overloaded, they can begin to respond with self-compassion rather than self-criticism. They learn to notice when they need a break, movement, sensory support, rest, or connection.

Without this understanding, many young people become experts at masking. They push through, hide their struggles, and meet everyone else’s expectations until eventually their battery runs flat.

Burnout is often not caused by weakness. It is the result of a nervous system that has been working far too hard for far too long.

Helping young people understand themselves is not giving them an excuse. It is giving them a roadmap.

Awareness leads to understanding.
Understanding leads to self-advocacy.
And self-advocacy can be life-changing.

I’d love to hear your thoughts below.

This week’s Extraordinary Minds live session reminded me just how powerful it can be when parents come together to share experiences, ask questions and realise they are not alone.

We explored some really important topics including:

💜 Helping children face fears and anxiety in a way that feels safe and supportive

💜 Understanding the nervous system and giving children the language to make sense of what is happening in their bodies

💜 Health anxiety, school anxiety and how anxiety can show up in different ways

💜 Supporting young people experiencing burnout and recognising when overwhelm has reached a point where recovery needs to come before expectations

💜 Needle phobia and practical strategies that can help both children and parents navigate difficult situations

💜 The challenges of parenting neurodivergent children, including how siblings can have very different needs and require completely different approaches

💜 Managing criticism from others, navigating differing parenting styles and learning to trust your own instincts

One of the strongest messages from our discussion was that there is no one-size-fits-all approach. Every child is different, and supporting them often requires curiosity, flexibility, compassion and a willingness to see the world through their eyes.

Most importantly, we talked about the fact that parents need support too. Many of us spend so much time caring for everyone else that we forget to offer ourselves the same understanding and kindness.

If you’re supporting a child with anxiety, burnout, school difficulties or neurodivergence and sometimes feel like you’re carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders, please know you’re not alone.

This is exactly why I created Extraordinary Minds.

💜 A supportive parent community
💜 Regular live sessions
💜 Practical resources and guidance
💜 A safe space to learn, reflect and connect with others who truly understand
