Dementia Action Week

This week is Dementia Action Week. It’s a chance to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and make sure people know where to find help.

If you or someone you care for is living with memory problems or a dementia diagnosis, support is available through the NHS. You can find practical guidance, local services, and information for carers here https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/dementia/

In Shrewsbury, our Primary Care Network has a dedicated Dementia Care Coordinator, who works closely with our GP practices, community teams, and local organisations to help join up care and make support easier to access. This includes helping patients and families navigate services, linking in with community support, and making sure care feels more connected.

You are not alone. There is support at every stage — for patients, families, and carers.

Read our guide on dementia, which covers possible causes, symptoms and treatments, plus guidance for family and friends on living with dementia.

Today Tuesday 21 April marks the first National Practice Manager Day – and it feels like the right moment to say thank you.

Practice managers are the people who keep general practice standing up on the hardest days.

They hold risk, manage pressure, solve problems before most of us even see them, and still make space for their teams and patients.
Across Shrewsbury PCN, our practice managers do this day in, day out.

They juggle workforce, estates, finance, contracts, compliance, digital change, and everything in between. And they do it with professionalism, resilience and care.

Much of this work happens quietly. But it matters.
And general practice would not function without it.

So today, we’re taking the time to recognise that contribution and say a very genuine thank you to all our practice managers.

Your work is seen. And it is valued.
