Being a Care Professional isn’t only about practical support.

Sometimes it’s sharing a crossword.
Making someone laugh.
Listening to a familiar story.
Or simply being the person someone looks forward to seeing.

For people living with dementia, consistency, patience and companionship can make an enormous difference.

You don’t need to know everything before you join us. We provide training and support to help our Care Professionals develop the confidence and skills they need.

What matters most is who you are: compassionate, dependable and genuinely interested in other people.

If that sounds like you, perhaps it’s time to consider a role with Home Instead in Shrewsbury, Oswestry or Wem.

Living with dementia doesn’t mean someone should automatically stop doing the things they have always enjoyed.

Preparing lunch. Making a cup of tea. Going shopping. Doing a crossword. Taking a walk.

Sometimes, what’s needed is simply a little reassurance, encouragement or practical support.

Our Care Professionals can work alongside clients, helping them remain involved in familiar routines while offering the support they need to stay safe and confident at home.

Because good care isn’t always about doing things for someone.

Very often, it’s about doing things with them.

Home Instead provides personalised care and companionship across Shrewsbury, Oswestry and Wem.

We often hear the words dementia and Alzheimer’s used as though they mean the same thing — but there is a difference.

Dementia is an umbrella term used to describe a collection of symptoms that can affect memory, thinking, communication and everyday life.

Alzheimer’s disease is the most common cause of dementia, but it isn’t the only one.

Changes can sometimes begin quite subtly — things being put in unusual places, familiar routines becoming more difficult, repeated questions or increasing confusion.

One unusual moment on its own doesn’t necessarily mean dementia. But if changes are becoming more frequent or beginning to affect everyday life, it may be worth speaking to a GP.

Throughout September, we’ll be sharing information to help families across Shrewsbury, Oswestry and Wem understand dementia a little better.

September marks the 15th anniversary of World Alzheimer’s month.

This year’s theme is ‘The Earlier You Know, The More You Can Do. A Diagnosis Matters.’

It’s a message we stand behind and resonates with many families we support.

Early diagnosis can help you and your loved one access the right support, plan for the future and make informed decisions about their care.

If you have questions about dementia or Alzheimer’s, please get in touch. We can offer guidance and point you towards the right organisations and professionals who can provide the advice you need.

You don’t have to do this alone.
