🌟Helping Our Community Stay Connected to What Matters Most🌟

Reflecting on the success of the 4th See, Hear, Remember Information Day Karen Corcoran, Regional Operations Manager for Radfield Home Care Shrewsbury & Oswestry, said:

"We set up this event four years ago to make it easier for people, who have sometimes reached crisis point, to get the information and the support they needed in one place. Seeing the Information Day grow and develop is testament to the fact that it was desperately needed. It was so wonderful to see so many people getting tailored information and help that will truly make a difference in their lives."

As a provider of home care in Shrewsbury and Oswestry, we see every day the difference that the right support can make. The continued success of See, Hear, Remember shows just how valuable it is to bring people, services and communities together.

We would like to thank every organisation, volunteer, sponsor and visitor who helped make this year's event such a success. Together, we are helping to create a more connected and supportive community for people living with dementia, sight loss and hearing loss across Shropshire.

🌟Get yourself active🌟

Yesterday Gemma our Care Manager attended an inspiring event Get yourself active local: Celebrating change, sharing success. This focused on disability rights, inclusion, health, wellbeing, and lived experience. The programme brought together a range of speakers who shared valuable insights on the progress being made, the challenges that remain, and the importance of working collaboratively to create more inclusive communities.

Throughout the day, discussions covered disability rights, evaluation findings, local research, health initiatives, accessible physical activity programmes, and personal lived experience journeys. The interactive sessions and action-planning activities encouraged meaningful conversations about how organisations and individuals can contribute to positive change.

One of the key messages Gemma took away was the importance of listening to lived experience, building strong partnerships, and turning conversations into practical actions that improve opportunities and outcomes for people with disabilities.

Gemma left the event feeling informed, motivated, and encouraged by the passion and commitment shown by everyone involved in driving inclusion forward.

🌟Local Organisations Highlight the Difference the Event Makes🌟

Our recent See, Hear, Remember Information Day was also a valuable opportunity for organisations to connect with local residents, raise awareness of their services and collaborate with others supporting people living with dementia, sight loss and hearing loss across Shropshire.

Emma Wilde, Interim Head of Wellbeing & Friendship Services at Age UK Shropshire Telford & Wrekin, praised the event, saying:

"Another fantastically organised and well attended event. We spoke to so many people about the support they can receive from us but signposted to many partners. For me this is the best event in the calendar!"

Their feedback reflects the unique role the event plays in connecting local people with organisations that can provide practical guidance, reassurance and ongoing support.

☀️ Hot weather advice ☀️

As temperatures rise, it’s important we look out for older family members, friends, and neighbours. Elderly people can become unwell very quickly in the heat.

Here are a few simple ways to stay safe:
💧 Offer small, frequent sips of water throughout the day
💧 Keep water accessible and visible in their living areas
💧 Include hydrating foods in meals (e.g., soups, fruits)
💧 Watch for signs of dehydration, like confusion or dry skin
💧 Encourage drinking water before or after physical activities
📞 Check in regularly with elderly relatives or neighbours

❤️ A quick phone call or visit could make all the difference ❤️
