Your body is more than its appearance—it's the home that has carried you through every joy, every challenge, and every new beginning. Instead of criticizing what you see, be grateful for what it has done. Treat your body with kindness, respect, and care. It has been with you every step of the way.

Had to share this 🥰
It’s such a moment of extreme pride but also a bit of loss for counsellors as much as it can feel like that for you. The moment that you feel ready to let go of us and use the tools you’ve learned after working so hard.

We’re so proud that you’ve got through so much with us walking by your side, but we’re also still human. We genuinely care about you all. But equally we know our role is to step back when the time is right.

You all leave a mark on us.

I wanted to introduce myself a little, so you can see the human behind the counsellor.

Im Cathryn someone who once thought being a professional was unreachable for me. Me and education didnt really mix well, I tried but I was lacking confidence, got very bullied, crap grades and after leaving ended up going through the motions of what I thought my life should look like.

In my 20s life got hard, I felt loss and grief that I didn’t understand and in my 30s I lost my hero to cancer, my beautiful dad.

I had various counselling sessions along the way until I met one specific counsellor. I admitted to her, “I wish I could do your job, but I can’t as I had, had my own demons.” She asked me, “Who says you can’t? What’s stopping you?” I listed all of the reasons, and the people that told me I couldn’t, also listing the fact that I struggled with academia. She played devils advocate and got my brain ticking over. I realised I had survived so many things that younger me would never had conceived I could.

Thanks to that counsellor, and accepting my loss and grief, recognising that if I could get through that why couldn’t I start to be more who I wanted to.

So that following January I started doing all the things younger me thought I couldn’t. I booked myself on a counselling course, then I booked my first plane flight! I was nearly 40 but the thought terrified me! I took the flight, I survived, I booked my first abroad holiday with my friends (my world opened up!), ticking off all the things that scared me, this was the start of unbecoming everything I thought or others made me think I was. I learned to find my authentic self.

I’m weird, quirky, a loving mum. I met a man who became my best friend, my calmer self, who matched my weird, I qualified as a counsellor, overcoming all my academic struggles working hard on my inner self. I took up drumming lessons in my 40s because why not! I have a mini zoo going on in my house, because again I can!) and then I booked to see Dogstar🤭 last weekend because I wanted to see the man I looked up to as an example of gentleness in a harsh world. Sadly didn’t get to see him in person. I’ve always said I’d just love a conversation with him. Plus the music 🥰 Glimmer, my favourite.

If I can do it, there’s a big chance for you too. Who would you be, what would you do if there were no restrictions?
