Wowza - check those steps out

Recorded an all time high step count last night, doing some of the things I love best

- dancing

- Listening to the Tong Maister (aka Pete Tong)

- hanging out with my fave

Another big first, was leaving our biggest boy home alone and managing to have number 2 stay over at a friend's!

Free time (just me and Andy) is so precious to us, because we rarely to never get any of it..

Just something that happens when your family are remote.

We had a cracking night, after a long and challenging last few days...

Music and movement are medicine for your mind, body, nervous system and mood.

Someone should teach this stuff

Oh, yeah...

I do!

Hoping you amazing people get out and about this weekend..

Tied in knots? Man-oh-man.

I guess you had to be there.

Yesterday in our brand new creative health (mindfulness x creativity) we did a big thing and learned LOTS.

The idea was to learn to draw the "man oh man' Celtic Knot.

No small feat....

To help support the range of learning preferences, I know this group has, I prepared:

- step by step written methods

- step by step visual instructions

- I speak out step by step guidance as I draw with the group

- and offer individualised support to those that benefit from that close contact learning.

It takes time to do all this, but it is critical because it helps grow confidence and self-belief.

It provides comfort and encouragement.

We learned that in preparing our knots, going S L O W was necessary, going FAST - made us lose attention, skip helpful steps.. and it went a bit off track.

We learned and worked with creating a mental understanding that it's ok for things not to work out first time.

We learned that just because we wanted to get the job finished, its worth taking our time, and finishing it off another time.

We were reminded that we can do hard things!

We loved being part of this creative wellbeing adventure & deeply caring community.

Thanks to each of you, our partners at Lincoln and District Indoor Bowling Club and funders.

I DON'T HAVE TIME FOR MINDFULNESS OR MEDITATION..

if I thought about it - neither do I!

Working mum

Special parenting needs

Running my own business

We all have heaps to do.

Exploring time, how we use it, how we maximise our effort and energy and even 'create' time just ONE element of how I support my clients

We get creative

We develop intentionality

We prioritise wellbeing

We look for the cracks

We habit stack to create momentum and make new habits stick.

Here's a personal example, there's a special 5 minutes when I am waiting for my HRT gel to dry.

It is applied each day (get it, each day) at 7,15 - 7.20 am.

So that's when I sit on my bum, and do my morning mindfulness & meditation practice.

I sit quietly, feel a few slower breaths, and speak to my mind and heart about who I want to be in the day ahead.

How I want to show up.

What attributes and qualities I might benefit from having lead me from the off.

This is an early morning opportunity to steer myself in the right direction, that set my mind up for focus, intentionality, wellness and in alignment with my values.

MOMENTS

So let's myth bust that we need heaps to time to enhance your wellbeing, personal development the mindful, self-compassionate way.

Your brain is always up for learning wonderful things.

It's a tired Dr. Sands at the of an amazing working week, a roller coaster of a parenting week and an inspiring connecting with friends and colleagues week.

I notice a cheeky 'shouldy' thought.

"I should end the week with something meaningful, helpful, profound".

But supporting my whole self and lowered energy, here is what I have got

"I caught the hungry caterpillar(s), (RIP the amazing Eric Carl"

See...

Just been recharging my brain and soothing my body with a slow walk there and back along my street...with a cuppa in hand.

Looking at colours, touching plants along with way, sipping my tea.

Resting

Relaxing

Restoring

I loved spotting the caterpillar, it really made me stop, look and smile.

I love lots of pauses during my working day too.

Because I really love myself and want to care for myself.

Happy Friday and a good weekend ahead.

Our Creative Health Sessions are Back for another term

✨ Mindful Doodling & More ✨

We gather on Tuesday 9th June, and in partnership with Lincoln and District Indoor Bowling Club and I'd love to welcome some new faces alongside our wonderful regulars.

For over four years now, we've been gathering each week to slow down, connect, create, and discover that creativity isn't something reserved for "artistic people" - it's something we all have within us.

The beautiful thing is that many people arrive at their first session convinced they "can't draw" or "aren't creative."

And then something magical happens.

One line becomes another.
A dot becomes a pattern.
A simple shape becomes something surprisingly beautiful.

💫 If you can draw a:
• Dot
• Line
• Squiggle
• Circle
• Square
• Triangle
..then you can absolutely do mindful doodling.

No art experience needed.
No mindfulness experience needed.
No pressure to be good at it.

Just a willingness to give it a go.

Each session offers:
✨ Step-by-step guidance
✨ A warm, welcoming environment
✨ Friendly, like-minded people
✨ Time to switch off from life's demands
✨ A chance to create something uniquely yours
✨ Tea, coffee, and delicious cake

And all for just £5 for a 90-minute session.

Whether you're looking for a little calm, a creative outlet, some gentle company, or simply a reason to take a break from the busyness of life, you'll be warmly welcomed.

Our sessions fill quickly, and we only have a few spaces remaining for the new term.

If you'd like to join us, pop me an email:

I'd love to see you there. 💜

Love, Dr. Sands x

PS here are some of the creations our group (sharing the many type of medium etc) has done with a little step by step support - how blooming amazing

🌿 LIFE... you couldn't write the script.

Here's one of the reasons I practise, teach and live neuroscience-informed mindfulness and self-compassion.

Maybe my yesterday will resonate with you...

💛 Photo 1
A brilliant Zoom call with Will Crawford.

Ideas flowing.
Energy high.
Meaningful work ahead.

We were both buzzing.

🍦 Photo 2
Coffee.
Ice cream.
A little pocket of restoration.

I knew I had a potentially challenging school pick-up ahead, so I'd deliberately carved out some calm before the next part of the day.

Because I've learned that I need those spaces.

🚑 Photo 3
My spoon hadn't even touched the ice cream when the phone rang.

My son had sustained a head injury at school and needed to go to hospital.

Coffee into a takeaway cup.

Quickly organising support for my daughter.

Speaking to school en route.

Navigating rush-hour traffic.

Heading to A&E.

One moment, everything is moving along beautifully.

The next, life throws you a curveball.

And this is exactly why I teach mindfulness and self-compassion through the lens of neuroscience.

Because when something unexpected happens, our brains don't calmly sit down and weigh up all the evidence.

They react.

Our heart rate rises.

Our attention narrows.

Our nervous system mobilises.

The brain's threat systems switch on.

And if we're not aware of what's happening, it's very easy to get swept away by the chaos.

But when we understand our brains, our bodies and our nervous systems...

When we recognise we're moving outside our Window of Tolerance...

When we've practised noticing stress before it becomes overwhelm...

Something different becomes possible.

Not perfection.

Not pretending everything is okay.

But staying grounded enough to take the next helpful step.

To think.

To prioritise.

To respond rather than react.

To feel the fear, concern and uncertainty without completely losing ourselves inside it.

Because mindfulness isn't really for the easy days.

It's for the moments when life unexpectedly asks more of us.

Thankfully, my son is okay. ❤️

Today, I can still feel my nervous system carrying some of yesterday's energy, so I'm practising what I teach: slowing down, being kind to myself and, quite honestly, having a little lie down this afternoon.

Because recovery matters too.

The skills we practise in calm moments are often the very skills that carry us through the difficult ones.

I'd love to know:

What helps you stay steady when life suddenly changes course?

✨ WHOOP WHOOP… IT’S ALMOST TIME! ✨

Are you carrying a lot right now?
Giving to everyone else?
Spinning multiple plates?
Running on empty a little more often than you’d like?

If so, you are definitely not alone.

Imagine a day where nobody needs anything from you… and your only job is to reconnect with yourself.

That’s exactly why Will Crawford and I are so excited to be preparing the launch of our third The Lincoln Wellbeing Retreat.

📅 Saturday 20th September
🏰 Charlotte House, Lincoln
🌿 Regulation for Restoration

Because here’s what we know:

When the nervous system is constantly switched on, restoration becomes difficult.

When we’re always “doing”, it becomes hard to find space for simply “being”.

And when life feels busy, demanding, and relentless, our wellbeing is often the first thing to slide down the priority list.

This retreat is an invitation to do something different.

To pause.
To reconnect.
To understand your mind, body, and nervous system more deeply.

To explore practical, evidence-based approaches to sustainable wellbeing through mindfulness, compassion, neuroscience, music, nature, reflection, and meaningful conversation.

Because wellbeing isn’t about adding more to your to-do list.

It’s about creating:
🧠 A healthier mind
💪 A steadier body
🌱 Healthier choices
✅ Practical action
✨ Lasting change

Over the last year, we’ve been privileged to host two sold-out retreats here in Lincoln.

Together we’ve laughed, learned, reflected, connected, and created a truly special community of people committed to living and leading well.

And now… we’re ready to do it all again.

Your programme is almost finalised, and if you’d like to be among the first to hear all the details and secure your place before tickets are released publicly, simply drop me a DM and I’ll add you to our VIP Invitation List.

If the last two retreats taught us anything, it’s that places disappear quickly 😊

We cannot wait to welcome you.

Pop me a message to find out more or jump straight to the top of the VIP list.

With excitement,
Dr. Sands & Will 💚

🌿 How do you find your feet again when life changes?

Yesterday, I stood at the door watching my daughter head off on her first school residential.

Cases packed.
Leavers hoodie on.

And then something unexpected and kinda weird happened.

For the first time in a very long time, I found myself alone in the house at 7.25am.

The silence felt strange.

Not bad.
Not good.

Just... different.

Suddenly, the house felt bigger.
Quieter.
And I caught a glimpse of all the changes that are coming as children grow up and life moves forward.

It made me think about how many transitions we navigate in life.

Children growing up.
New jobs.
Relationships beginning or ending.
Moving house.
Retirement.
New chapters we didn't see coming.

Often, part of us is excited.

And part of us wobbles.

One of the things I love about mindfulness is that it reminds us we don't have to choose between emotions.

We can feel proud and sad.

Grateful and emotional.

Nervous and excited.

All at the same time.

In fact, that's often what growth feels like.

A little wobble.
A little wonder.
And a lot of learning.

Our brains love familiarity because it feels safe, so when life changes it's completely normal to feel a little unsettled while we adjust.

The invitation isn't to push those feelings away.

It's to notice them.

To be curious.

To speak kindly to ourselves as we find our way.

So if you're navigating a change right now, perhaps ask yourself:

✨ What is ending here?
✨ What is beginning?
✨ What possibilities might this next chapter hold?

Yesterday I felt the wobble.

I felt the gratitude.

And I felt the possibility too. 💛

The house is still empty and a bit weird today and I am making space for that too.
