Hey Everyone
Let's talk about Spring!
Normally, I post about clients, and conditions I've treated.
Today, I thought I'd share some insight from the more ethereal side of Traditional East Asian Medicine.
You probably already know that acupuncture is an 'energy' medicine. The needles are placed in the body to assert a direct effect on your energy, or Qi, as it's called in acupuncture.
When we become out of balance, whether that's a physical symptom like pain or migraine, digestive problems, or a mental / emotional issue like anxiety, stress or PMS - for us acupuncturists it's an indication of a 'disorder' of the balance in your Qi.
It's a very long topic, and if you're interested I'll post more on the theory and fundamentals, but for today, I want to focus on the fact that our Qi can become imbalanced for many reasons, one of them being Climatic conditions.
This is particularly pertinent in Spring. The energy all around is bursting with a violent, unstoppable force.
The weather is unpredictable, with sudden heavy downpours and wild winds.
Trees that were bare yesterday, out of nowhere have blossom, and leaves. Seeds are sprouting and pushing upwards relentlessly through the soil.
This explosion of life all around us extends into the animal world too, it's a time of birth for many mammals. Birds are frantically building nests ready for their offspring to burst from their eggs.
Animals come out of hibernation, emerging from the cocoon of sleep to restart the frantic process of survival.
This constant, turbulent pushing upwards and outwards of the energy in the world around us affects our internal energy too. We can't feel it as a tangible entity, but what's happening in the world outside, impacts on the Qi inside our bodies.
Many of us find that the burst of energy in the world after the sleepy winter causes an exacerbation of our symptoms.
These can include:
- pounding headaches / migraine
- digestive issues / heartburn
- raised blood pressure
- moodiness / irritability / depression
- anger, rage and frustration
- inflammation
- PMT / menstrual cramps
So, if you have noticed that you have been suffering more lately, it could well be a seasonal adjustment to the crazy energy of our beautiful planet in Spring!
Acupuncture promotes a balance of your Qi, which is why I see so many people at this time of year struggling more than usual. The treatment is tailored made for you, but will focus on combatting the uprise that's happening outside!
It may sound crazy, I get that. But there it is. We ARE affected energetically by seasonal energy.
I always off a free consultation, and I'd be delighted to help you. Message me on WhatsApp 07506 057801 to find out if I can help, or to book.
