NEW BLOG: Salt it Out: Don’t let the hidden killer go back into hiding 🧂❤️

Salt reduction is one of the most effective population health interventions ever implemented in the UK, yet momentum has stalled. This Salt Awareness Week (11–17 May), it's time to bring it back into the conversation. 📢

💬 Want the direct link to the blog? Drop the word SALT in the comments below and we'll send it straight to your DMs! 👇🧂

⚖️ Adults in England consume an average of 8.4g of salt per day, 40% more than the recommended 6g limit. The evidence is clear: excess salt drives hypertension, increasing the risk of stroke, heart disease and kidney disease. And yet over half of people aren't confident in estimating their daily intake.

🔬 In our latest blog, by Holly Gabriel, Registered Nutritionist, and Natalie Brabben, Communications Officer, Action on Salt and Sugar at Queen Mary University of London, we explore:

🔹 Why salt still matters for cardiovascular health
🔹 The hidden salt problem in everyday foods
🔹 How health professionals can integrate salt reduction into patient conversations
🔹 Why voluntary industry measures aren't enough and what meaningful policy action looks like

Salt reduction supports better diet quality, cardiovascular health, and health equity. The UK led in this area before, let’s reclaim that ambition.

Double tap if you love a walk ❤️

Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do for your body and mind… is go for a walk.

You don’t need a gym. You don’t need fancy kit. You don’t even need loads of time.

Walking is one of the most underrated forms of exercise. It’s gentle, accessible - no matter where we’re starting from.

If you’re feeling tired, stressed, unmotivated, or stuck today… just get outside and go for a short walking.

You don’t have to smash a workout every day. Small steps all add up.

So this is your gentle reminder today…

If you can, pop your shoes on, get some fresh air, and get out for a walk.

You might be surprised how much better you feel afterwards ❤️

Tea and coffee are Britain’s go‑to hot drinks and more of us are choosing decaf. But is it actually better for your heart?

Removing caffeine from our favourite hot drinks does not change the amount of antioxidants that give regular tea and coffee their health benefits.

Research has found that people who drink coffee before midday may have a lower risk of heart and circulatory diseases, whether it’s decaf or not.

So decaf tea and coffee can absolutely be part of a healthy diet, as long as you’re not loading them up on the sugar, syrups or cream. If caffeine affects your sleep, makes you feel jittery, or triggers heart palpitations, switching to decaf could help.
