🤫 Not everyone wants to be loud on social media, not everyone is looking for huge business growth. Sometimes contentment is more rewarding than anything else.

Sometimes I get asked if I aspire for a large high street salon. I’ve worked in that environment in the past and I’ve also been a manager. Being a manager taught me that I missed being hands on and the enjoyment of the relationship with the client, it also taught me that I didn’t enjoy managing staff and having therapists calling in sick, when they had a full day of clients scheduled. I also didn’t like the noise of a larger premises, I prefer a quiet and private environment to offer my treatments from. These past experiences led me to shape my business to suit how I work optimally.

Being a parent is also one of the greatest gifts in life, but it’s also very time demanding. I had to make my business work around my family life. I am immensely grateful to our clients for financially supporting my family by supporting my business.

I’m feeling reflective this week as my son’s have finished college and GCSE’s it makes me super proud to watch them grow into the young men they are becoming. I do worry about what the future will hold as it’s incredibly challenging for our younger generation in this present time.

My motto and what I say to my clients regularly is “just take it a day at a time”

🚴 Yesterday my husband rode 32miles for our local Pendleside Hospice, he did this to challenge himself and also to give back to the incredible work hospices do. I’m so proud of my husband 😍

Yesterday was also the 15 year anniversary of losing my Dad, we know from first hand experience how important hospices are for many. It was St John’s hospice in Lancaster that cared for my Dad, we are forever grateful for all the support they gave ❤️‍🩹

Kimberley also lost her Dad to cancer 15 years ago next week. We find this fascinating that our lives have many parallels, having a friend who understands how you feel is the best feeling ever and then to have that friend as a colleague is amazing 🤩 I’m sure our Dad’s brought Kimberley and I together 🥰

Grief is a weird thing, every now and then it creeps up from nowhere and hits hard. Last week felt uncomfortable and I wasn’t sure why. Maybe it’s because my eldest son turned 18 and it’s always noticeable when a family member is missing at big birthday celebrations. It’s also a reminder of the passing of time.

Cancer is cruel, but so are many other diseases. Together we can donate to many wonderful charities to support them in the work they do to help others in their time of need.

Thinking of those who are dealing with illnesses and loss at the moment ❤️‍🩹

Always be kind, you never know what others are dealing with.

What I have learnt from my Dad dying before his retirement is that life is for living, it’s not a rehearsal. Enjoy whatever makes you happy and don’t compare your life to others. If something doesn’t feel right and you have the opportunity to change it, do it, don’t wait.

☯️ It can be tempting to fill life with social arrangements when we are blessed with the light of the summer months

☯️ Give yourself permission to turn down social arrangements and leave the jobs for another day

☯️ Invest in an eye mask if the light is disturbing your sleep

🌱More new life in the form of baby Lavender plants have gone in the flowerbeds by the studio this afternoon. These little plants will attract many pollinators over the summer months 🐝

Quietly behind the scenes, I gently and slowly try and keep on top of our garden so that it looks pretty and smells divine.

I’m not green fingered and I’m a gardening novice, but over the years, I’ve kept putting in new plants and learning along the way. Many of our wonderful clients have brought me plants and taught me their gardening techniques over the years.

Our garden isn’t perfect, but that’s ok because I don’t believe in trying to be perfect, that would be exhausting.

I hope you all enjoy the butterflies and bees over the summer when you come for a treatment. May we encourage you to take your time and stay after your treatment and just take some time to connect with nature outside the studio, it’s so peaceful and so good for mind, body and soul.

☀️We all love the sun ☀️ The sun is essential for our health and vitamin D production. Make time to be outside wearing no SPF for 20 minutes between 11am - 3pm from now until September when the sun is shining bright and UVB is present.

☀️The rest of the time give your skin protection with antioxidant SPF to neutralise free radical activity from UVA, UVB, blue and Near Infrared light.

☀️UVA is known to pe*****te the skin deeper than UVB rays, it breaks down our collagen fibres and can lead to premature ageing. If you’d like your skin to look youthful and beautiful for as long as possible, wearing a low chemical, higher physical sunscreen with antioxidants is essential, plus applying 365 days a year and reapplying throughout the day.

☀️UVB rays stimulate the pigment cells in our skin, when we are exposed to them regularly this can lead to dark spots appearing on our skin. The blue and near infrared light in our environment and technology can also cause pigmentation problems and a damage to our collagen fibres. This is why even if you are wearing SPF, a sun hat and sat in the shade you can still experience dark spots on your skin, blue light is everywhere.

☀️We only recommend you use SPF 50 if you are going abroad or on the days here in Yorkshire when the UVB index is high and you are going to be outside for a period of time when you may burn.

☀️SPF 15-30 with antioxidants is sufficient SPF protection all year round to protect our skin from all light. Choose SPF 15-30 for your 365 days a year protection.

☀️Be aware of the ingredients in your SPF. To be a SPF 50 it will contain higher chemical ingredients to block light, these can be traced in your bloodstream 2-3 hours after application, this is why we don’t recommend it on a daily basis.

☀️What you put under your SPF is also important for skin health, focus on antioxidant rich skincare prioritising vitamins A, C & E.
