Q&A Wednesday ๐Ÿ’ฌ

What actually happens during a child's autism assessment?

One of the most common questions we hear from parents is what the assessment process actually involves.

At Autism & ADHD Assessment Hub, our assessments are designed to be thorough, supportive and child-centred. We take the time to understand your child's experiences, strengths and needs, using information gathered from parents, observations, specialist assessment tools and our multidisciplinary team.

Assessment isn't about finding what's "wrong" with a child, it's about gaining a better understanding of how they experience the world and identifying the support that may help them thrive.

If you have a question you'd like our clinicians to answer in a future Q&A Wednesday, let us know in the comments.

You don't have to earn rest.

In a world that often celebrates being busy, it's easy to feel like rest is something we have to "deserve" first.

But rest isn't a reward for productivity, it's a need.

For many neurodivergent individuals, constantly navigating sensory demands, social expectations, masking and everyday pressures can take a huge amount of energy. Over time, this can lead to exhaustion that goes beyond simply feeling tired.

This is why conversations around autistic burnout are so important.

Autistic burnout is not laziness, a lack of resilience, or "giving up." It's a response to prolonged overwhelm and the ongoing effort of coping in environments that may not fully meet a person's needs. It can affect energy levels, communication, daily functioning and overall wellbeing๐Ÿ’›

If this is something you've experienced yourself, or you've noticed it in your child, we've recently shared a blog exploring autistic burnout in more detail, including common signs, contributing factors and ways to support recovery.

We've also included a recording of our webinar with Clinical Directors Dr Zoe McGovern and Dr Jessica Donohoe, who discuss autistic burnout, masking and practical ways to support wellbeing.

Remember: slowing down isn't falling behind. Sometimes the most important thing we can do is give ourselves permission to rest.

"I care about my friends... so why is it so hard to stay in touch?"

Many neurodivergent women describe feeling guilty about unanswered messages, cancelled plans or losing touch with people they genuinely care about.

It's not always about friendship. Sometimes it's about capacity.

In our latest blog, we explore friendship burnout, masking, ADHD, autism and why maintaining relationships can feel more exhausting than people realise.

We're delighted to share that together we've raised ยฃ520 for Autism Dogs Charity during FY25/26.

As our North West Charity of the Year, we pledged to donate ยฃ5 from every completed assessment carried out across our North West hubs.

Thanks to the support of the families who chose Autism & ADHD Assessment Hub, 104 completed assessments helped generate this donation.

A huge thank you to Autism Dogs Charity for the incredible work they do supporting autistic individuals and their families.

Every assessment completed helped contribute to a cause that makes a real difference. ๐Ÿ’œ

Feeling supported and understood throughout the assessment process is something we pride ourselves on.

Receiving feedback like this reinforces that our clinicians are always working to the best standards, which we always strive to uphold. We are glad that we have been able to provide some clarity and hope that some new strategies can be implemented from this going forward.

Thank you for trusting in us for your journey and taking the time to share your experience.
