Adult Social Care Charging – Update

Following concerns raised by Simon Lightwood MP on behalf of local residents, I have provided a formal response explaining the Council’s position. I have also copied in the three other Wakefield District MPs, as an update and in anticipation of any similar queries they may receive.

I fully recognise the concern caused by unexpectedly large invoices, particularly for vulnerable residents and their families, and I am sorry for the distress caused.

These are not new or additional charges. They relate to care already provided. The issue arose from an anomaly within the Council’s existing digital social care system, which caused delays between care being provided and being invoiced.

Payment plans and support are available, and we will work fairly and proportionately with anyone experiencing difficulty, taking individual circumstances into account. Please contact Social Care Direct Wakefield Distric Council for further advice if needed.
