🦷 Fear of the Dentist?

Freedom From Fear — Your Summer Starts Here.

I once worked with a client who hadn't been to the dentist for many years.

It wasn't because they didn't care about their teeth.

It wasn't because they were neglectful.

It was because they were terrified.

Every time they thought about making an appointment, their stomach tightened.

They'd remember the sounds.

The smells.

The feeling of lying back in the chair.

The sensation of not being in control.

And let's be honest...

Why would you voluntarily attend something you fear and then have to pay for the privilege?

Especially when getting an NHS dentist has become increasingly difficult, it's become even easier to avoid.

"I'll ring next week."

"I'll wait until things settle down."

"It's not that bad."

Until one day, pain makes the decision for you.

And alongside the fear often comes shame.

Shame about how long you've left it.

Shame about the condition of your teeth.

Shame that you can't seem to "just get on with it."

But dental anxiety isn't a lack of willpower.

For many people, it's a nervous system that has learned that the dentist isn't safe.

Sometimes because of difficult childhood experiences.

Sometimes because of a painful procedure.

Sometimes because of feeling powerless and unheard.

And sometimes, they don't even know where the fear began.

The good news?

Dental fears often respond beautifully to hypnotherapy.

Because we're not trying to force you to be brave.

We're helping your subconscious mind update an old alarm response that no longer serves you.

Imagine booking the appointment.

Walking into the practice calmly.

Sitting in the chair feeling in control.

Looking after your health without fear getting in the way.

🌍 Your smile shouldn't suffer because anxiety is in charge.

Fear of Crowds?

Freedom From Fear — Your Summer Starts Here.

I once worked with a client who had travelled to Birmingham for an important business conference where they were due to present the following day.

They arrived at Birmingham New Street Station and were immediately met with the hustle and bustle of one of the UK's busiest stations.

Announcements echoed overhead:
"Please be aware that pickpockets operate in this station..."
"If you see an unattended package..."

The noise.

The people.

The constant movement.

The reminders that danger could be lurking around every corner.
They managed to make it outside, hoping the fresh air would help.
But the city centre was just as busy.

Crowds moving in every direction.
Traffic.

Noise.

Nowhere to pause.

They decided to pop into McDonald's, thinking they could sit quietly with a drink and gather themselves. Instead, they were met with another queue stretching almost to the door.

More noise.

More people.

More overwhelm.

Eventually, completely exhausted, they made their way to a nearby hotel and asked if they could check into their room early.

Once they closed the hotel room door behind them, they finally felt able to breathe.
And yet, the next day, they knew they would have to navigate the station, the city, the conference venue and all of those crowds again.

It wasn't that they didn't want to be there.
It wasn't that they weren't capable.
They were intelligent, successful and more than able to deliver the presentation they had prepared.

Their nervous system had simply decided that crowds weren't safe.

And that's exhausting.

I've worked with many people who have found themselves avoiding places, events and experiences because the thought of navigating crowds feels overwhelming.

The good news?
Crowd anxiety often responds beautifully to hypnotherapy.

Because we're not trying to force ourselves through fear.

We're helping the subconscious mind update an old alarm response that no longer serves us.

Imagine attending the conference.
Going to the concert.
Walking through the station.
Enjoying the event.
Being fully present, rather than constantly searching for the nearest escape route.

🌍 Your world doesn't have to get smaller because of fear.

Take a listen to the latest episode of LSE IQ podcast... I'm on it!

Hypnotherapy is more than just a myth, it’s a powerful path to healing. ✨

I am so proud to share my recent conversation on the LSE IQ podcast. For a long time, hypnotherapy has been shrouded in misconception, but my journey from working in the NHS to becoming a hypnotherapist, has shown me that it is so much more than what we see on stage.

After witnessing firsthand how hypnotherapy can provide relief where conventional medicine sometimes falls short, I became passionate about changing the narrative.

I truly believe that when we bridge the gap between science and holistic practice, we unlock incredible potential for healing.
In this episode, we dive into:

Why cultural perspectives on hypnosis vary so drastically.

The clinical reality of hypnotherapy in modern wellness.

How we can move past the stigma to embrace effective, life-changing tools.
A huge thank you to the team at LSE IQ for exploring this topic with such depth and nuance.

If you’ve ever been curious about how hypnotherapy actually works, or if you’ve been skeptical in the past, I’d love for you to give this a listen.

🚗 FEAR OF DRIVING? FEAR OF PARKING?

Freedom From Fear, Your Summer Starts Here.

I once worked with a client who could drive perfectly well.

They could get themselves from A to B.

But parking?

That was a completely different story.

Particularly parallel parking.

The closer they got to their destination, the more anxious they became.

"What if I can't get parked?"

"What if people are watching?"

"What if I hold everybody up?"

"What if I make a fool of myself?"

They described it as a complete meltdown.

On more than one occasion, they drove all the way to an important appointment, became overwhelmed by the thought of parking, and simply kept driving.

Turning around.

Going home.

Missing appointments they genuinely wanted to attend.

The stress and frustration were enormous.

And they are far from alone.

I've worked with people who avoid town centres, avoid unfamiliar routes, avoid busy car parks, avoid motorways, and avoid driving tests because anxiety has become attached to driving.

Sometimes the fear begins around driving lessons or a driving test.

Sometimes it follows an accident or a frightening experience.

Sometimes it seems to appear out of nowhere.

But over time, confidence shrinks and the world can become smaller.

The good news?

Driving anxiety often responds beautifully to hypnotherapy.

Because this isn't usually about driving.

It's about the subconscious alarm response that has become attached to driving.

Imagine...

✨ Driving with confidence.

✨ Parking without panic.

✨ Attending appointments without dread.

✨ Going where you want, when you want.

✨ Feeling independent again.

🏔️ FEAR OF HEIGHTS?

Feel Limitless This Summer
The cable car? Absolutely not.
The glass viewing platform? No chance.
The Eiffel Tower? Maybe from the bottom.
The mountain viewpoint? You can take the photos.
The suspension bridge? I'll wait here.
The rooftop restaurant? Not for me.

For people living with a fear of heights, the world can quietly become smaller. Holidays become about avoiding.

Avoiding viewpoints.
Avoiding attractions.
Avoiding balconies.
Avoiding cable cars.
Avoiding adventure.

And while everyone else is admiring the view...
You're focusing on surviving the moment.

The racing heart.
The jelly legs.
The dizziness.
The overwhelming urge to get back to solid ground.

But here's the thing...
You know the barrier is safe.
You know the structure is secure.
You know you're not actually in danger.
Yet your body reacts as though danger is happening.

That's because fear of heights isn't usually a logical problem. It's a subconscious alarm response. And that's exactly where hypnotherapy can help.I've worked with many people who have spent years limiting themselves because of a fear of heights.
People who avoided holidays. Missed experiences. Stayed behind while family and friends enjoyed the adventure.

The good news?
This is exactly the sort of fear that hypnotherapy can often help with beautifully.
Imagine...
✔ Taking the cable car.
✔ Standing at the viewpoint.
✔ Looking out from the Eiffel Tower.
✔ Enjoying the mountain scenery.
✔ Feeling excitement instead of dread.
This summer doesn't have to be about staying close to the ground.
🌍 Feel limitless this summer.

🚪 FEAR OF FEELING TRAPPED?

Freedom From Fear — Your Summer Starts Here.

Lifts.

MRI scanners.

Middle seats.

Busy rooms.

Traffic jams.

Underground trains.

Always needing to know where the exit is.

I've worked with many people whose lives have quietly become organised around not feeling trapped.

People who avoid lifts completely.

People who will take five flights of stairs rather than press a button.

People who need to sit where they can clearly see the door.

People who struggle with MRI scans, enclosed spaces, crowded places, or situations where escape doesn't feel easy.

And if that's you…

Firstly — you are not strange.

And you are certainly not alone.

Because this isn't usually about logic.

Most people know the lift is safe.

They know the door will open.

They know the scan will finish.

And yet…

The body reacts as though danger is happening.

Racing heart.

Tight chest.

Hypervigilance.

Exit scanning.

The overwhelming feeling of:

"I need to get out."

This is exhausting for the nervous system.

And over time… worlds can quietly become smaller.

But here's the good news.

This is exactly the sort of work hypnotherapy can help with beautifully.

Because we're not arguing with logic.

We're working with the subconscious alarm system underneath the fear.

Imagine…

Using a lift calmly.

Attending the MRI appointment without panic.

Choosing your seat because you want it… not because you need the escape route.

Feeling safe inside your own body again.

💉 FEAR OF NEEDLES? IT'S NOT “JUST A LITTLE NERVOUSNESS.”

Freedom From Fear, Your Summer Starts Here.

I once worked with a client who was so terrified of needles… they would genuinely have chosen becoming extremely unwell over using one.

They had a diagnosis of diabetes.

And still… the fear was bigger than logic.

Because needle phobia isn't usually about logic.

For this client, there had been some very difficult experiences with injections during childhood.

Their nervous system had learned:

Needle = danger.

So every conversation, every appointment, every possibility of injections triggered fear, dread, panic, avoidance.

And they are far from alone.

Some people faint.

Some avoid blood tests.

Some cancel appointments.

Some live with untreated health conditions rather than face a needle.

Some don't even fully understand why they feel so afraid.

And if that's you…

I want you to know something important.

You are not silly.

You are not weak.

Your subconscious mind learned a protective response.

And protective responses can be updated.

This is exactly the kind of work hypnotherapy can help with beautifully.

Sometimes people know where the fear began.

Sometimes they don't.

Both are workable.

Imagine…

Attending appointments calmly.

Blood tests without dread.

Treatment without panic.

Feeling in control of your body and your choices again.

You don't have to keep living around fear.

28/05/2026

In our collective effort to save lives, the conversation around addiction has increasingly centred on harm reduction, and rightly so.

Needle exchange programmes, naloxone distribution, safer use education, and public health interventions have prevented countless deaths, reduced the spread of infectious disease, and created vital points of contact for people who might otherwise remain entirely outside support systems. These approaches save lives. That matters.

But while survival is essential, survival alone is not the same as recovery.

The understandable focus on keeping people alive can sometimes leave less space for the equally important work of helping individuals heal, rebuild identity, restore meaning, and create a life they no longer need to escape from.

Addiction is not simply a biological issue, nor solely a matter of choice, willpower, or behaviour.

The biopsychosocial model reminds us that addiction develops and persists through a complex interaction of biological vulnerability, psychological processes, emotional pain, learned coping strategies, trauma, relationships, social environment, culture, and lived experience.

The biological dimension may involve dopamine pathways, withdrawal, tolerance, genetics, and nervous system dysregulation.

The psychological dimension often includes unresolved trauma, anxiety, depression, shame, grief, emotional avoidance, or deeply embedded patterns of thinking and self-identity.

The social dimension may encompass poverty, isolation, family dynamics, peer influence, adverse experiences, lack of opportunity, stigma, and community disconnection.

Effective recovery often requires us to address all three.

This is where clinical hypnotherapy offers a valuable and practical contribution within a broader, multidisciplinary model of care.

Clinical hypnotherapy works with the emotional, imaginative, and subconscious processes of the mind, the very systems that often underpin addictive drives, automatic behaviours, compulsions, and self-defeating cycles.

Rather than focusing only on stopping a substance or behaviour, hypnotherapy can help individuals understand and reshape the internal experiences that keep addiction alive.

Through carefully tailored therapeutic approaches, clinical hypnotherapy may support individuals to:

• reduce cravings and compulsive urges
• regulate emotional overwhelm and nervous system activation
• process underlying trauma, grief, or unresolved emotional experiences
• challenge limiting beliefs, shame, and self-destructive identity narratives
• strengthen self-worth, motivation, agency, and future orientation
• develop healthier coping strategies and internal resources
• reconnect with meaning, purpose, and a sense of inner safety

For many people, addiction is not simply about seeking pleasure, it is about seeking relief, escape, numbness, control, connection, regulation, or temporary peace. When the underlying emotional and psychological needs are not addressed, behavioural change alone can be difficult to sustain.

Clinical hypnotherapy is not a replacement for medical care, harm reduction, psychological therapy, or social support. Nor is it a one-size-fits-all solution. However, as part of an integrated biopsychosocial approach, it has the potential to support deeper psychological change and help bridge the gap between staying alive and truly learning how to live again.

Harm reduction saves lives. Recovery work helps people reclaim them.

We need both conversations.

Hypnotherapy, Sexual Freedom & Support Through Every Stage of Life

Over the years, my clinical training has continued to evolve alongside the beautifully complex realities of being human. From specialist training in Hypnotherapy Obstetrics to more recent CPD in Psychosexual Health, I remain deeply passionate about supporting people across all stages of their emotional, hormonal, reproductive and sexual wellbeing journey.

Sexual health is not a niche issue. It is part of being human.

It touches identity, confidence, relationships, body image, nervous system regulation, hormones, fertility, pleasure, safety, grief, change, and sometimes the quiet struggles people carry alone.

Hypnotherapy can offer powerful support in areas such as:

✨ Fertility journeys & conception challenges
Supporting stress reduction, emotional processing, body trust, fear release, medical procedure anxiety, and creating a calmer mind-body environment.

✨ Pregnancy, birth & reproductive health
Using hypnotherapy obstetrics approaches to support pregnancy wellbeing, birth preparation, tokophobia, birth trauma recovery, and the emotional transitions into parenthood.

✨ Menstrual cycle & hormonal challenges
Helping with PMS, PMDD, cycle anxiety, pain-related distress, emotional overwhelm, body frustration, and the psychological impact of living with fluctuating hormones.

✨ Perimenopause & menopause
Supporting hot flush anxiety, sleep disruption, confidence changes, identity shifts, libido concerns, emotional regulation, and navigating this powerful life transition with greater compassion and ease.

✨ Sexual confidence, intimacy & sexual freedom
Working therapeutically with shame, anxiety, performance fears, intimacy concerns, desire differences, body confidence, sexual identity exploration, relationship dynamics, and reconnecting with choice, pleasure, safety and authenticity.

✨ Support for men too
I’m especially pleased to be extending my CPD further into men’s psychosexual health — supporting areas such as confidence, anxiety, erectile challenges, performance pressure, fertility concerns, relationship intimacy, hormonal shifts, emotional wellbeing and the often under-discussed impact of masculine expectations.

Hypnotherapy is never about “fixing” people.

Often, it is about helping people reconnect with their bodies, calm the nervous system, process experiences, challenge limiting beliefs, and rediscover a sense of agency, confidence and freedom.

Because sexual wellbeing, reproductive wellbeing, and emotional wellbeing are not separate conversations.

They are deeply intertwined.

And everyone deserves support that is compassionate, evidence-informed, non-judgemental, and grounded in respect for the uniqueness of their journey.
