As people who work in aesthetics, we should probably tell you ageing is the enemy.

It's not.

The enemy is poor information, unrealistic expectations and expensive products that don't do very much.

Ageing is compulsory.

Looking after your skin is optional.

One of the things we say surprisingly often in clinic is...

"I don't think you need that."

And yes, occasionally people look a little surprised.

The truth is, we would much rather help someone spend their money wisely than simply spend more of it.

Some of the biggest improvements I see don't come from another syringe or another treatment.

They come from wearing SPF every day.
Using skincare consistently.
Stopping the endless cycle of buying products because they're trending.
Looking after the results you've already invested in.

Good aesthetic medicine isn't about convincing everyone they need more.
It's about understanding your goals, explaining your options honestly, and helping you decide what gives you the best value over the long term.

Sometimes that means recommending treatment.
Sometimes it means recommending patience.
And sometimes it means telling you to save your money.

If your practitioner has ever advised you not to have a treatment, they're probably someone worth keeping.

Trust is built just as much by the treatments we don't do as the ones we do.

Apparently I have a gym membership...

According to my bank account, it's very well used.

According to my attendance record... not so much. I think I've managed three visits this year. 🤦🏼‍♀️

So, I thought I'd share a few more random facts about me...

I'm ridiculously excited by new clinic technology. A new piece of equipment will always beat a new handbag.

I have a weakness for rescue animals, good cake and buying skincare that I definitely don't need... just because I'm "trying it out."

Conferences are one of my favourite parts of the job. Yes, I love the education, but I also love catching up with people, meeting new faces and putting the world to rights over a drink or two afterwards. Some of my closest friends have come from this profession.

I'm a regular listener to the podcast, and one of the unexpected joys has been the community that's grown around it. People who started out as names on social media or voices in my headphones are now genuine friends.

One of the things I'm most proud of is the relationships I've built with practitioners across the UK and around the world.
I genuinely believe collaboration beats competition. Every single time. This profession is at its best when we share knowledge, support each other and celebrate each other's successes.

I've been a nurse for over 35 years, and I still get just as excited about learning something new as I did when I first qualified.

I spend a lot of time teaching, mentoring and supporting other healthcare professionals. It's one of the most rewarding parts of what I do because if we can help another practitioner grow in confidence or make a safer clinical decision, ultimately patients benefit too.
What I love most about my job isn't injecting treatments. It's meeting people. Listening to their stories. Helping them understand what's happening to their skin or face.
Finding solutions that genuinely fit them.

That's the bit that never gets old.
If you've made it this far, tell me one random fact about yourself in the comments.

(And if anyone knows how to actually use a gym membership, I'm all ears... 😉)

There was a time when ordering a single box of filler felt like a big deal.

Every delivery was exciting, every new patient gave me a little burst of confidence, and every booking felt like proof that maybe—just maybe—I could make this work.

These days, our orders look very different.

Not because bigger is better. Not because we're chasing numbers. But because each syringe represents someone who has trusted us with their face, their confidence and, often, a little bit of their vulnerability.

That trust is something we never take for granted.

For every syringe that arrives, there's a consultation behind it. A conversation. A carefully considered treatment plan. Sometimes, there's even a decision not to treat.

The size of the order isn't the achievement.

The privilege of caring for so many of you.

To everyone who has chosen us, recommended us to friends and family, or simply continued to return to us - thank you.

We'll never stop working to earn that trust.

Your skin doesn't stop healing when you leave the clinic.

One of the questions we're asked most is:
"How can I make my results last longer?"

The answer isn't usually more treatments.

It's consistency between treatments.
That's why we're excited to be able to offer £50 off our professional LED home therapy mask when you book any skin treatment with us—or if you're one of our treatment subscription members.

LED light therapy has been extensively studied and can help support:
✨ Skin healing after treatments
✨ Reduced inflammation and redness
✨ Improved collagen production
✨ A healthier skin barrier
✨ Better long-term skin maintenance

Whether you've had microneedling, skin boosters, chemical peels or simply want to get the most from your skincare routine, using LED little and often at home can help support the work we're doing together in clinic.

This isn't about replacing professional treatments—it's about making every treatment work harder.

We're making it a little easier to get started by offering £50 off the mask with any qualifying skin treatment or as part of our treatment subscription programme.

Available while stocks last.

If you'd like to know whether LED therapy would suit your skin concerns, just ask us at your next appointment. We'll always tell you honestly whether we think it'll add value for you.

When people choose an aesthetics clinic, they often ask about the treatments.

We think a better question is...

Who's making the decisions about your care?

At the Northern Institute for Facial Aesthetics, we're proud to be a nurse-owned clinic. Nursing has always been about looking beyond the obvious. Listening before acting. Assessing before treating. Putting the person before the procedure.

Those values haven't changed simply because we've moved into aesthetics.

But we also know that great patient care is built on collaboration.
That's why our clinical team is supported by an experienced Medical Director.

Together, we bring different perspectives, challenge each other's thinking, discuss complex cases and make sure every decision is grounded in evidence, ethics and patient safety.
Because good aesthetics isn't about selling treatments.

It's about knowing when to treat.
When to wait. When to say no.
And when another approach would serve you better.

We don't believe in one-size-fits-all treatment plans.

We believe in careful assessment, honest conversations and building relationships that last for years—not appointments that last for minutes.

The treatments we offer matter.
The technology we use matters.
But the people making the decisions matter even more.

Because results begin long before any treatment starts.

They begin with good clinical judgement.

One of the comments we hear most often is...

"I've never had a consultation like that before."

And we take that as a huge compliment.

Because a consultation shouldn't be a sales pitch.
It shouldn't be a race to recommend the latest treatment.
And it definitely shouldn't leave you feeling pressured into making a decision before you're ready.

The most important part of any appointment isn't the treatment.
It's the conversation.

We want to know what you've noticed. What bothers you. What doesn't bother you. What you've tried before. What worked. What didn't.How you want to feel when you look in the mirror.

Sometimes people arrive convinced they need filler.

They don't.

Sometimes they ask about anti-wrinkle treatment, but what they're really noticing is a change in skin quality.

Sometimes the answer isn't a treatment at all.

It's reassurance.

Or a skincare routine.

Or simply understanding what's happening as our skin changes over time.

That's why our consultations take time.

Because before we can decide how to help, we first need to understand you.
At the Northern Institute for Facial Aesthetics, we don't believe in treating faces.

We believe in understanding the person behind them.

The right treatment isn't always the biggest treatment.

It's the one that's right for you.

Every day we see patients who tell us they look completely different depending on the mirror they're standing in, the lighting above them, or even which camera they've used.

And they're absolutely right.

Our eyes are incredibly easy to fool.

The angle of your face. The direction of the light. A slight smile. A raised eyebrow. Standing half a step closer to a window.

All of these can make lines appear deeper, skin look smoother, or facial contours look completely different.

The same applies to many before-and-after photographs.

A small change in lighting or positioning can make a treatment appear far more dramatic than it really is. Whilst most clinics would never intentionally mislead, it's surprisingly easy to create unrealistic expectations without even realising it.

That's one of the reasons we invested in the QuantifiCare LifeViz® system.

Every image is captured under exactly the same conditions.
The same lighting. The same camera settings. The same facial position. The same distance. No flattering angles. No clever lighting. No editing.

Just an honest, reproducible record of your skin and facial structure.

We can then analyse your images in multiple ways—from true colour photography to shadow analysis, texture mapping, clay rendering and three-dimensional surface imaging—allowing us to assess changes that simply can't be appreciated in a standard photograph.

For us, it's not about creating impressive before-and-after images.
It's about measuring real change.

Because the decisions we make together should be based on evidence, not guesswork.

And when you invest in your skin, your confidence and your wellbeing...

You deserve to know that what you're seeing is real.

Somewhere along the way, many of us stop recognising ourselves.

It isn't that we've suddenly become "old".

It isn't about chasing youth.

And it certainly isn't about looking like somebody else.

It's that the face looking back at us no longer reflects how we feel.

You still feel capable.
Still energetic.
Still you.

But the mirror tells a different story.

That's why the best aesthetic treatments should never announce themselves.

They shouldn't make people ask, "What have you had done?"

They should simply make someone say,
"You look really well."

At the Northern Institute for Facial Aesthetics, we don't believe confidence comes from chasing perfection.

We believe it comes from understanding your face, respecting what makes it uniquely yours, and making thoughtful, evidence-based decisions that help you look refreshed, healthy and authentic.

Not frozen.
Not overfilled.
Not unrecognisable.
Just... you.

Because the goal was never to become someone else.

It was simply to feel like yourself again.
