πŸ’œReflexology Lymphatic Drainage was developed by Sally Kay to support women who have undergone mastectomy and experience lymphoedema.

πŸ’šBecause the lymphatic system is important to the wellbeing of our entire body, RLD may be useful in supporting chronic illness, menopause, inflammation, and other conditions.

πŸ’œThis client has a lifelong condition which creates oedema in their lower limbs. After their treatment, they reported feeling lighter and less tension in the leg tissues. They visit regularly for ongoing lymphatic support. πŸ’šπŸ‘£

Legs Matter Week πŸ¦΅πŸ’šπŸ’œ

https://www.facebook.com/share/1HxsvEzyQk/

πŸŽ‰ Legs Matter Week 2026 starts today!

Across the UK, too many people are still experiencing avoidable pain, delayed healing, preventable deterioration and escalating care needs linked to poor lower limb care.

But better care is possible.

This year's theme, It doesn't have to be this way, is about moving from awareness to action.

Throughout the week we'll be sharing resources, educational events, inspiring examples of best practice and practical tools to help drive the implementation of guideline-based lower limb care.

Whether you're a healthcare professional, patient, carer, organisation or supporter, there are lots of ways to get involved.

Join the conversation. Share your activities. Help us champion better lower limb and foot care.

What is lipoedema?

Lipoedema is a chronic medical condition characterised by an abnormal and disproportionate accumulation of fat that can affect the legs, arms and other areas of the body including the abdomen. This condition is often mistaken for regular obesity or lymphedema, but it is distinct in its presentation and requires specific attention.

Lipoedema typically affects women and is believed to be influenced by hormonal changes, as it often starts or worsens during puberty, pregnancy, or menopause. The exact cause of lipoedema is not fully understood, but it is thought to have a genetic component, as it often runs in families.

Individuals with lipoedema may experience symptoms such as pain, tenderness, and easy bruising in the affected areas. The condition can also lead to a significant difference in the appearance between the upper and lower parts of the body, with the lower body being disproportionately larger. Unlike regular fat, the fat tissue in lipoedema does not respond well to traditional weight loss methods such as diet and exercise.

When dealing with cardiac issues, pain and anxiety usually exist alongside for patients. Check out this 2025 study comparing the use foot and hand reflexology on these two symptoms in patients in a cardiac ICU: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/41669283.
