40 years in nursing. Still a nurse at heart 💙
Long before co-founding Lapis Care in 2015, Liz Blacklock was out in the community supporting patients and families every day as a Registered Nurse.
Over the years, she kept hearing the same thing from patients:
“My carer didn’t turn up.”
“They were late again.”
And when she looked more closely, the problem became clear. Carers were often only being paid for the minutes spent inside someone’s home, not the travel in between, not the gaps in their day, not the reality of the job itself.
Liz believed there had to be a better way.
So, she and her husband, Graeme, built Lapis Care on one simple principle:
If staff are genuinely valued and looked after, they will look after clients properly too.
That’s why Lapis Care has always done things differently:

Liz still holds an active nursing registration today and remains passionate about championing the vital role carers play across the sector.
Because for Liz, nursing was never just a career.
It was, and still is, about people.
