🌿🌿This is a bit of a read but some important information about sunscreen, what you are putting on your skin and into the oceans😱
Boots 5 Star Rating is exactly what it says it is - it's a Sun Care rating given by Boots to companies that pay them a license fee to sell their Sun Care in Boots outlets - and therefore that rating spreads across other High Street retailers if those same products are sold elsewhere ....🍃
It is however only used within the UK and is not a European or Global rating system and nor is it part of any EU regulations or industry standard testing for protection against harmful UVA & UVB rays.
It is however something that many people & even institutions like the NHS in the UK rely on as an indication of sun protection as it's been so well marketed by Boots as a bench mark for Sun Care products 😮
But you'll see for yourself if you look at many Sun Care products sold that although they have paid a licence fee for 5 Star Rating from Boots they have a red rating on the Think Dirty App
of 9-10 based on the chemicals they use and many of these ingredients also mean they are detrimental to our oceans and marine life 😮
Tropic Sun Screens will never have a Boots rating as we will never pay a licence fee to be sold in Boots .....
and the Boots means of testing UVA & UVB rays is based on chemical sun screens and not on mineral sun screens (which all of ours are) that protect the skin in a completely different way and so their testing systems would not apply to products like ours. Tropic has created a Sun Care range that complies with all EU regulations & industry standard testing that offers Broad Spectrum protection and is allowed to carry the official UVA symbol in a circle logo 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Our Sun Care is an option to those who want natural, chemical free protection from harmful UVA & UVB rays that complies with all official EU regulations and industry standard testing without any need for animal testing.
Tropic MINERAL SUN CARE RANGE which is broad spectrum & water resistant, to really keep skin protected from the sun and prevent premature skin ageing. Free from harmful chemicals. Also kind to our Oceans too.
The main difference between mineral and chemical sunscreen is that mineral formulas use active mineral ingredients like zinc oxide and titanium oxide, rather than chemical nasties like benzophenone-3/ oxybenzone and homosalate. Mineral sunscreens do not absorb into the skin, whereas chemical sunscreen do. Instead, mineral sunscreens reflect the sun’s rays and in case you’re wondering, the zinc oxide and titanium dioxide sit on top of the skin, forming a barrier against the sun's rays, working immediately to protect you from the sun, giving you a safe beach body
We love nature! That’s why your sun care collection is high in minerals and brimming with natural goodies. It’s been discovered that oxybenzone, found in chemical sunscreens is damaging to coral reefs, algae, sea urchins, fish and mammals. Mineral sunscreens are not only better for your health but keep the ocean and sea life happy too!
