It is Cervical Screening Awareness Week (15 to 21 June)

Cervical screening saves around 5,000 lives every year in the UK

Also known as a smear test, it’s a free NHS check that helps prevent cervical cancer by testing for high risk HPV.

⏰ 9am to 2pm

✔️ No appointment needed
✔️ Quick, routine screening
✔️ Friendly, supportive team

Tips to make your screening easier:
✨ Wear something you feel comfortable in
✨ Ask for a smaller speculum if you’re worried about discomfort
✨ Take slow, deep breaths to help you relax
✨ Let the nurse know if you’re feeling anxious

If you’re due or overdue your cervical screening, come along, no need to book an appointment, it's quick, simple and friendly.

Saturday 20th June 2026
9am–2pm
📍 7 Day GP Service, 107 Liverpool Road, Southport, PR8 4DB

No appointment needed* just drop in. Our Nurses will support you through the smear test and answer any questions. Available to anyone registered with a GP in Southport or Formby.

Menopause affects so many, yet we don’t always talk about it openly.

Great to see two brilliant opportunities in our community to listen, learn and support one another:

Mums The Word and Healthwatch Sefton are bringing people together for a relaxed community listening event, with a friendly overview of menopause and a chance to share lived experiences and help shape local services.

🗓 11 June | 6–8pm
📍 The Big Onion, Lord Street

Alongside this, Brighter Living Partnership are offering a free menopause group coaching session, designed to help people better understand menopause and explore practical ways to manage this stage with confidence, supported by our PCN Clinical Nurse Lead, Maggi Bradley.

🗓 23 June | 5:30–8:30pm
📍 Southport Community Centre

Both are fantastic chances to understand more, connect, or share your voice.

Staff from Southport and Formby Health, including colleagues from Southport and Formby Primary Care Network and GP practices, recently completed their annual Basic Life Support training with DevelopMe CIC 👏💜💚

It’s vital that our teams feel confident and prepared to act in an emergency, and this training helps ensure we’re ready when it matters most.

The session covered essential lifesaving skills, including how to respond to anaphylaxis, choking, performing CPR, and using a defibrillator.

A huge thank you to Jen for delivering such an engaging and informative session 💙

A big thank you to Sian from Beacon Counselling Trust for delivering the Bet You Can Help workshop to student nurses from Sefton Training Hub.

The session helped student nurses build confidence in recognising and responding to gambling-related harms, using a practical and supportive first‑aid approach.

The workshop covered:
• Understanding who may be vulnerable
• The impact of gambling harms
• How to spot concerns and offer support
• Where to signpost for specialist help

This training highlights the important role nurses play in supporting people in their communities and helping them access the right support at the right time.
