Sometimes you can spend far too long wondering whether something is really “for you”.

Will I know anyone?
Will I feel comfortable?
What will I actually get from it?

So perhaps it’s better to hear the answer from someone who came.

Her advice if you see a Coming Up For Air retreat or Midlife Thriving event pop up?

Go for it.

Because you might arrive expecting to learn about nutrition and wellbeing, but you can leave having learnt a little more about yourself too.

You’ll meet brilliant people. Share experiences. Have conversations you probably wouldn’t have in everyday life. And learn from people who genuinely know their stuff.

That combination of expert knowledge, connection and time for yourself was a huge part of what made the weekend so special.

Sometimes you don’t need to know exactly what you’ll get from an experience before you book it.

You just need to give yourself the chance to have it.

Food demos at a retreat should be about more than watching someone make something healthy.

They should make you want to go home and try it.

At Coming Up For Air, we talked about gut health and how closely it can be connected with so many parts of our wellbeing, from digestion and energy to our immune system.

But supporting your gut doesn’t mean eating the same handful of “healthy” foods on repeat.

Quite the opposite.

Variety matters. Different plant foods bring different fibres and nutrients to the table, and experimenting with new ingredients can make eating well feel much more enjoyable.

So our food demos were about tasting, talking, asking questions and discovering ideas that could actually make it into real life once everyone went home.

Because food is nourishment, but it should still be something you look forward to.

And sometimes the best nutrition advice is simply this.

Try something different.

Sometimes the best way to understand what a retreat is really about is to come along and experience it for yourself.

Having recently been diagnosed with coeliac disease and already working with Erica, coming to Coming Up For Air was a chance for one of our lovely guests to take that next step.

To learn. To ask questions. To feel confident around food. But also to discover that the weekend was about so much more than nutrition.

It was good food she could enjoy, new experiences, conversations, laughter, connection and being surrounded by women at different stages of their own wellbeing journeys.

And, most importantly, she had a brilliant time.

That’s something we really wanted this retreat to create. A space where individual needs are understood, but they don’t have to define your experience.

You can simply come along, be looked after, learn a little more about yourself and enjoy being part of it.

Sometimes the most important part of a retreat is the moment everything goes quiet.

Hands on your heart. Feet on the ground. Eyes closed.

A chance to notice what’s happening in your body, rather than rushing straight past it.

Because our wellbeing isn’t neatly divided into separate boxes.

The gut, body and mind are constantly communicating. How we eat, sleep, move, manage stress and feel emotionally can all influence how we experience our wellbeing.

That’s why Coming Up For Air was never just about nutrition.

It was about creating space to reconnect with all of it.

To learn what your body needs.
To nourish your gut.
To quieten some of the noise in your mind.
To feel grounded.
And to remember to check in with yourself too.

Heart. Body. Gut. Mind.

Sometimes looking after yourself starts with simply being still enough to listen.

Food Noise Friday
You open the fridge...
Again.
Not because there's something new.
Not because you're even hungry.
Sometimes you're just hoping the answer is in there.
Anything that makes today feel a little easier.
Perimenopause has a funny way of making ordinary moments feel surprisingly complicated.
You're not failing.
You're navigating something that deserves a little more kindness.
Food Noise Friday's exist as reassurance that you're not imagining it.

When you are planning a retreat, support can arrive in many different forms.

From the kind words and messages of encouragement to thoughtful contributions from brands that want to support the experience, every gesture is genuinely appreciated.

A huge thank you to .living, who kindly gifted protein powder sachets for the women attending our Come Up for Air retreat.

They were so well received, and we have had some lovely feedback from those who tried them over the weekend and took them home to enjoy afterwards.

Thank you for helping us add another thoughtful touch to two very special days.

These products were gifted with no obligation to post. This is simply a genuine thank you.

Wow. What a retreat.

We did, in fact, Come Up for Air.

For two days, we stepped away from the noise and created space to pause, reflect and look at the areas of life that you want to grow, adapt or approach differently.

There was honesty, laughter, learning and so much love and support in the room.

Thank you to every woman who came, shared and allowed herself to be part of the experience. You made the retreat what it was.

A special thank you to Sophie and Aaron for being there. We make a great team, and I am also so grateful to .living for their generosity.

Here’s to taking what you discovered and moving forward with greater clarity, confidence and care for yourself.

Have you ever found yourself thinking...
"I just need to try harder."
"I've become so lazy."
"Why can't I get through the afternoon anymore?"
If that sounds familiar, I want you to know you're not alone.

Many women tell me they feel guilty about their energy levels during perimenopause and menopause. They wonder why they can't keep up the way they used to or why even simple tasks can suddenly feel overwhelming.

The truth is, it often isn't about motivation.

As hormones change, they can affect blood sugar regulation, sleep quality and even how your brain uses energy. When poor sleep, fluctuating hormones and busy lives all collide, it's no surprise that your energy feels different.

That doesn't mean you should simply accept feeling exhausted.
It means your body may need a different kind of support.

One place to start is with breakfast. Including both protein and fibre can help support steadier energy throughout the day, rather than relying on quick fixes when the afternoon slump arrives.

Small changes won't solve everything overnight, but they can make a real difference over time.

That's why I created One Minute Menopause.

Every Monday, we'll take one symptom, explain what's happening in your body and share one simple nutrition tip to help you feel more like yourself again.

My goal is simple. To help you understand what's happening in your body, so you can work with it, not against it.

Food Noise Friday
You're planning your next meal while eating this one.
You're still chewing.
And somehow your brain has skipped three hours ahead.
It's such a strange feeling.
You're not hungry.
You're just never fully allowed to stop thinking about food.
If you've caught yourself doing this recently...
I see you.
Food Noise Friday's exist as reassurance that you're not imagining it.

Have you ever found yourself opening the fridge... then wondering why you're even there?

Or thinking about your next meal before you've finished the one you're eating?

If that sounds familiar, you're not imagining it.

Many women notice something called "food noise" during perimenopause and menopause. It's that constant mental chatter around food. The cravings. The grazing. The feeling that food is always on your mind.

It's easy to blame yourself or think you've suddenly lost all willpower.

But hormonal changes can increase hunger signals and change the way your brain responds to food, making it much harder to feel satisfied.

That doesn't mean you need to eat less.

It means your meals may need to work a little harder for you.

Building meals around protein, healthy fats and fibre can help you feel fuller for longer and keep your energy more stable throughout the day. Small changes like adding a handful of nuts, seeds, avocado or olive oil alongside a good source of protein can make a real difference.

Food shouldn't take over your thoughts.

Understanding why it's happening is often the first step towards feeling back in control.

That's why I created One Minute Menopause.

Every Monday, we'll take one symptom, explain what's happening in your body and share one simple nutrition tip to help you feel more like yourself again.

My goal is simple. To help you understand what's happening in your body, so you can work with it, not against it.
