Sometimes the best lessons are the ones you never planned. ❤️

On Friday, a small conversation with a child took our carefully planned lesson on a completely unexpected detour. And honestly? I’m so glad it did!

One little question led to another; curiosity took the wheel, and suddenly we were exploring ideas I hadn’t even considered putting into the lesson.

And that’s how we ended up having a whole session on bacteria! 🦠😂

What started as a tiny conversation turned into questions, investigating, talking about how bacteria spread, why handwashing matters, and discovering just how much there is to learn about these microscopic little troublemakers!

It’s such a lovely reminder that children don’t always learn in neat little boxes — and they certainly don’t care about sticking to our carefully prepared lesson plans! 😂

When we follow their curiosity, give them space to wonder, question and explore, they can take their learning further than we ever could have planned.

So here’s to the unexpected questions, the “but why?” moments, the spontaneous investigations… and the lesson plans that occasionally get completely hijacked.

Because sometimes the best learning happens when we simply follow the child. 🌱✨

And sometimes… following the child leads you straight to bacteria! 🦠🤣

🌈 Inclusion Week at Four Winds 🌈

At Four Winds, we believe that accessibility should be for everyone. 🐴💚

Our accessible equine experiences are designed to ensure that every rider feels welcome, supported and able to take part, whatever their individual needs or abilities.

Our person-centred approach to teaching and learning means that we get to know each rider as an individual. We adapt our sessions, communication and support to help each person learn in a way that works for them.

It’s not just about learning to ride — it’s about creating opportunities to learn, achieve and build confidence. 🌟

We love seeing our riders discover what they can do, celebrate their achievements and grow in confidence, both with the horses and beyond the arena.

Because at Four Winds, everyone deserves the opportunity to feel included, empowered and proud of what they can achieve. 💚🐴

🐴✨ Our Changing Lives Through Horses groups have started the new term with a bang! ✨🐴

It’s been a fantastic start to the term, with both our Silver and Bronze Award groups getting stuck into some exciting new learning.

🌟 Monday’s Silver Award group have started a group project to create a PowerPoint presentation all about common horse breeds. They’ll be researching different breeds, discovering their unique characteristics and sharing their knowledge with the group. We can’t wait to see their finished presentations!

🦺 Wednesday’s Bronze Award group have been focusing on health and safety around the yard. From choosing and wearing the correct personal protective clothing and equipment (PPE), to learning safe lifting techniques, the group have been developing some really important practical skills.

It’s wonderful to see everyone getting involved, building confidence and learning new skills — all while spending time with the horses. 🐎💙

Here’s to another fantastic term of learning, growing and changing lives through horses! 🌱🐴

💚 Not every child is meant to fit into the same box... and they shouldn't have to. 🐴

Some children walk into a classroom carrying worries bigger than their school bag. Some have lost confidence. Some struggle to communicate. Some feel overwhelmed, misunderstood, or simply unable to thrive in a mainstream school environment.

But then... they meet a horse.

A horse doesn't judge exam results, labels, or past experiences. It doesn't see a child who has "failed" in education. It sees a person worthy of trust, patience, and kindness.

And that's where the magic begins.

At our Changing Lives Through Horses Alternative Provision, we use the unique partnership between horses and young people to help children rediscover who they are and what they're capable of.

Every session is an opportunity to build the skills that will stay with them for life:

🗣️ Communication – finding their voice.
💪 Confidence – believing in themselves again.
🤝 Relationship Building – learning trust, respect, and empathy.
👥 Teamwork – working together to achieve success.
🐎 Responsibility – caring for another living being with pride.
🌟 Perseverance – discovering that it's okay to fall, as long as you get back up.

We welcome children who are:
💚 Struggling in mainstream education
💚 Home educated
💚 Living with Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Every child deserves a place where they feel accepted, valued, and capable of succeeding.

Sometimes all it takes is one horse, one safe space, and one person who believes in them.

Because when a child starts believing in themselves, everything can change.

Our Accessible Riding sessions are about so much more than learning to ride a pony. During each session, we encourage confidence, communication, and the expression of feelings in a safe and supportive environment.

This week, Arthur and Eva had fantastic sessions focused on developing these important life skills while having lots of fun along the way. They also enjoyed some special bonding time with their ponies, finishing their sessions with plenty of cuddles and affection.

We are so proud of the progress they continue to make, both in and out of the saddle! 🐴❤️
