Part-time Boutique Retail Sales Assistant - The Crystal Shop St Andrews

Prestigious retail and lifestyle brand in desirable location of St Andrews Fife. This is your chance to be part of something a bit different. You’ll be working closely with the most important part of our business – our customers. Giving them fantastic customer care and making them feel good. You’ll really get to know our customers and what they’re looking for; it’s everything from helping them find the perfect crystal working deliveries and making everything look beautiful, to building our brand and sharing our unique products. Dealing with online customers, processing and packing orders will be a significant part of the job.

ESSENTIAL: Retail experience.
ESSENTIAL: Confident talking to customers. Outgoing Manner.

The personal skills that are required for the job:
Having a friendly and engaging personality. You will be required to talk to each customer and engage with them on their needs, make small talk and make customers feel welcome within the shop environment. This is an essential skill.
Comfortable working with members of the public.
Should have a confident manner.
Assistants should be physically fit as they will be on their feet for most of the day and may be required to lift large amounts of stock.

*Previous knowledge of crystals is not required.
FULL TRAINING on products will be given. If you have no knowledge of crystals before please do not worry. Comprehensive training will be given and we regard RETAIL experience and friendly demeanour highly important. Most of our previous staff did not know about crystals before joining us.

Students of St Andrews University. If you apply, please keep in mind you will be required to work during the summer period. Indicate this in your application to be considered.
This is also a job for a parent who needs to work around childcare/nursery. However weekends will be a requirement of the job.

Keep reading to discover why Ancient Egyptians loved this stone ✨🌟🌙

Malachite has been mined and loved by humans for over 6000 years, the Ancient Egyptians particularly began mining this crystal some 4000 years ago, but they didn’t use it in a way that you might expect. Instead of carving this crystal into statues or jewellery, this stone was most commonly ground down into a powder to be used in paint and makeup. They loved to use this to decorate their eyes and to paint significant artifacts due to its vibrant green colour. Now we know that due to its high copper content that this crystal can lead to copper poisoning if inhaled or ingested, so it definitely wasn’t the safest option for your eye makeup but it definitely would have been striking. Green was a beloved colour in Ancient Egyptian life due to its associations with the god Osiris, who was associated with plant life and rebirth. Osiris rose from the dead and was often depicted with green skin which symbolised that like the plant life grew back every season in the region, he was also resurrected. The pieces of Malachite you see here are in their unpolished state, which is often called silky malachite due to its distinct sheen.
