Have you noticed the Wildflower area at the bottom of the Sandon Road opposite The Four Crosses pub?

In the summer of 2024, I took over this bed with the aim of providing a space for pollinators and invertebrates.

This year it seems to be coming together with a variety of established wildflowers; we even had a successful sparrow nest in the bird box!

Thanks go out to the landowner for their permission, Staffordshire Wildlife Trust for their support, Rotary Club of Stafford Castle for a financial donation and The 15th Stafford Brownies for their enthusiastic digging!

Something caught my eye whilst out on home visits yesterday, the first bee sighting of 2026! 🐝

Speaking of bees, there is a new gadget in clinic.

Meet Buzzy! 🐝

It's no secret that injections can be unpleasant, especially for our bravest little patients. That's why I've brought in Buzzy to take the "sting" out of needles.

How does it work?
Buzzy uses a brilliant combination of cold and high frequency vibration. By placing it between the pain and the brain, it confuses the body's nerves and takes the focus away from the injection.

It. Is. HOT! 🌡🥵🔥

In these extreme temperatures, remember:

- Never step barefoot on hard landscaping outside, particularly those living with Diabetes or numbness to their feet, these surfaces can burn quickly.

- As tempting as it is to go without, please continue to wear compression hosiery as normal. Swollen legs can crack and weep easily, and as we are all acutely aware, there are flies everywhere at the minute.

- Apply a simple (or prescribed, if you have one) moisturiser; well moisturised skin is better equipped to retain body fluids and reduce the risk of dehydration in the vulnerable.
